I'd rather fight 50 Gorilla-sized Krampuses(Krampi?) with a scimitar myself, but a shortsword is infinitely better than a club, especially w/2024 rules.

Always study & sharpen philosophical razors. They save a lot of trouble.
Is the dragon using a dragon sized short sword or a standard human sized short sword. Also, how is the Beholder wielding the stick and how big is said stick?
I feel like I have a better chance of talking my way out of the situation if I only have a stick, rather than an actual sword

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
I feel like I could dodge Eye Rays more easily than a line of acid that will melt the flesh off your bones, and Beholders don't have melee attacks with a reach of 10 feet.

I chose the beholder, since the dragon could at least potentially wield the short sword. The beholder would be so distracted trying to figure out the importance of the stick it cannot wield at all that I would have a chance.
I mean ... am I supposed to win this fight? If I try, I'll lose to either opponent nearly instantly. However, I can outrun a beholder.
If I have to fight, it hardly matters, but I suppose a sword gives me a better chance at forcing someone with a real weapon to give it to me - like, hold up a gun shop to steal a respectable rifle that could win against either.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
Would you fight? A Dragon or a Beholder? (BTW, you have the weapons)
I have wrestled Hellhounds and I have slain dragons, but that one kobold killed me with a dagger!! A DAGGER!!!!

I too would choose the beholder with a stick.
