Currently, if you embed a spell or monster tooltip in a post on D&D Beyond, by default you get the legacy version -- e.g. dire wolf.
You're able to get an alternate version by adding a src=free-rules directive to the tag (e.g. dire wolf), but this will become increasingly awkward going forward. It would presumably be easy to change the default but might be surprising when looking at older posts.
I think there should be a naming convention to differentiate them like "dire wolf 24" for the new version, and leave the old one "dire wolf" so as not to have issues with older posts and other uses before the change linking to something different than was being described.
I think, in an ideal world, going forward the default should be 2024, leaving old posts as they are. Though, doing that without effecting older posts... idk how they would. Probably the only solution will be doing something like [ spell scr=phb24]
This is a debate that was had when MotM came out and replaced many of the statblocks. I made basically the same argument about it being cumbersome etc. Basically, old users complained that it would make their old links they'd written not work anymore. Rather than doing a universal replace to make all previous links go to VGtM or MToF (as appropriate) and new ones go to MotM, they decided to just keep the default as VGtM or MToF (for example, Barghest goes to VGtM), and you have to specify MotM so you get Barghest goes to MotM).
I don't really expect this to be handled any differently.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Which command did you use to reference it in these 2 ways? can't figure out how link the 2024 Shadow Monster in my Homebrew instead of the 2014 version.
The starting tag for monsters in 2014 would be [monster], for 2024 it's [monsters]. Same modification for closing the tag.
Some tooltips only work for one ruleset and not the other. You'll have to experiment a bit (mostly rules I think).

So you pluralise the tags.

There's also an option for a source tag, but it's much easier to just use monsters vs monster.
Here, let's test to see if monsters work the same as spells.
Dire Wolf
Dire Wolf
Yeah, it does.
It's literally that simple. That's how to do it.
This thread has all the usable ones on it.
