Sadly spellcasters in general are hideously pared down anymore and generally have little to nothing on their stats meant for more than a single encounter. But yeah, they weren't gonna toss a Strahd analog in the new Monster Manual.
I think I see part of my confusion reading the physical boko. DnDBeyond took the physical 2014 Vampires spell caster variant and made it its own entry. So perhaps a mapping was not intended.
I don't like how all there is on what a "Umbral Lord" is a vague sentence: Vampire umbral lords embrace their ties to the darkness, devoting themselves to sinister powers in exchange for access to forbidden magic.
I'm guess it would how they would build Strahd, plus the lair customization.
Honestly, Strahd's spell list isn't a great match for his general theme anyway, being fireballed by a vampire is kind of off. He's a spellcaster because that was kind of how you made a monster into a badass in AD&D.

So I did find hidden in the back of the 2024 monster manual a mapping from old 5e monsters to the new monsters.
But it is missing quite possibly the most import mapping of all.
WHERE IS STRAHDs equivalent ?
Strahd had the 2014 Vampire Spellcaster stats, where is the 2024 Vampire Spellcaster ?
Is Strahd and the Vampire Spellcaster now the Vampire Umbral Lord ??
If so a) you missed the mapping
b) ewww, the spells are replaced by Sickening Ray and Hunger of Hadar?
Feels bad. I really wanted a cool 2024 Strahd
Strahd didn't use the vampire spellcaster template anyway, he had a custom template that was similar but not identical.
