Hi there! I'm looking for something and don't quite know how to find out more. Google is failing me.
My husband had a Red D & D Starter box that he got from selling items at his school in the late 70s or early 80s. It was stolen in his 30s and he really wishes he had one.
The current starter box is different. He thinks the one that was given as a prize was different.
Does anyone know anything about this at all? I would love to replace it for him as a gift but can't find any mention of it on the internet. Maybe I'm looking for the wrong things?
I don't know the company they sold for.
Anyone have any ideas at all? Thanks for your help!
A quick search of Ebay for "D&D Red Box" came up with plenty of results. Many of them are expensive, but some are not so bad. The good old red box was my intro to D&D back in the early 80s. While I completely understand the lure of nostalgia and I think this would be a wonderful gift, old D&D is extremely simplistic by today's standards. I'm not trying to talk you out of it--quite the opposite, really. But when you get it, if it piques his interest, it may be a great bridge to the current Dungeons and Dragons 5e if he gets the itch to roll up some characters and look for a game again.
Thanks! It's a specific red box, that came from this school prize thing. They totally sold another red box but with slightly different contents somehow.
I totally agree about current vs. the old but it's more a shelf item in the end for a completionist. haha

Best of luck.

Chances are it's one of the different revisions. Note how the 1981 and 1983 boxes look similar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_&_Dragons_Basic_Set
Hope that helps narrow down your search!
