I'm planning to run the new Shattered Obelisk adventure when it comes out next week. However, my table is at an odd time where we finished running Lost Mine long enough ago that they don't remember many of the finer points and characters of the adventure, but still aren't too keen on running it again. I've heard that DoIP takes place in Phandalin as well.
Would anybody who played through it be able to tell me if that adventure would create enough of a bond between a party and the people of Phandalin to go from that adventure into Shattered Obelisk?
There's no narrative to DoIP, apart from what the party makes for itself/the DM introduces. It's just basically a series of sidequests. Note that it finishes at L7 not L5 like LMoP, although there's nothing stopping you cutting the dragon out and stopping it at L5. Personally, I'd run DoIP into the Beyond Icespire Peak trilogy, it leads in more naturally, being sequels. You could always just start the TSO adventure at L6.
