You actually cannot use Hunter's Sense as written against a creature with the False Appearance feature as you cannot distinguish it as anything other than an object. The target of Hunter's Sense must be a creature. Creatures with false appearance typically can't be seen by similar divination magic (detect magic) which would also result in detecting no resistances.
Whether or not other abilities like Primeval awareness would detect a creature with this trait is ultimately up to your DM. That said, Primeval awareness in Barovia is like looking for a fire by shoving your face into a hearth.
Barovia is also meant to be a bit unfair. Everything works for Strahd or the dark powers and everything wants you to suffer. Things like scarecrows coming to life and trying to strangle you are part of the experience. :P
Hi,
My ranger is a monster hunter (from Xanathar's) and we were creeping up on a village in Barovia (shudder).
He spied a scarecrow (or he thought he did). So using the skill - hunters sense - he checked to see whether it had any immunities.
As he got nothing back - no sense of anything - he walked up and was then attacked.
so to the question:
Is anyone aware of a ruling of 'False Appearance' vs divination type skills/spells?
Cheers

That makes sense - thank you
Barovia is very definitely unfair. A little time and perspective helps ;)
