In DnD Char Gen character viewer, where is the bonus to using a tool listed? I've got a Rogue with expertise in thieves' tools, but I don't see the bonus to the die roll listed.
The only tool that it is possible to get expertise in is theif's tools. The roll to pick locks is usually supposed to be DEX + proficiency with theif's tools.
Technically the way it is worded, it doesn't grant expertise in a tool. Tools are left deliberately vague to the dismay of every player and DM. In this case, it is indicating that should an ability check be made in regards to the tool proficiency, the proficiency for that check is doubled. It is actually better than having "expertice in a tool" because it would double the proficiency bonus for a performance check while using the disguise kit.

The modifiers for tools are not shown, because it is up to the DM to declare which ability score is applied to the tool check.
I feel like there should be some indicator on the character sheet that the character has expertise in a tool.

You can always add a custom skill if you like so it’s notated on your sheet
You can get expertise in any tool as a changeling
