I am looking to get a cheap tablet to keep track of player stats and names for my players (I am the DM). Does anyone use a Fire with any measure of success or issue? Thanks for all of your input.
I have 2 Fire 8 HDs, and they work great for use as a player, but I still prefer my laptop as a DM.
The thing about Amazon tablets is they use a modified version of the Android OS, so they don't come with the Google play store. There are workarounds to install it, but I'm not going to post the instructions here. I don't think it's particularly illegal since you own the device and you're not pirating any software, but it probably does void the warranty.
I have a Fire 8, Ipad Pro, and a Laptop. I only use the Browser version but, in game, I find that the Fire to be much much slower on reloading and switching between pages than the ipad or Laptop. Since I have really good wifi, I have not needed to download the app to see if that fixes the slow refresh problem.
I appreciate the feedback! While the original part of this thread has been satisfied, I am now looking into cheap options for a D&D group at my local high school.
If you’re not switching tabs and just using it for the online character sheets how well does it work. Tracking hp, and looking at my abilities, spells, etc.

That's great, exactly what I was looking to hear as far as feedback. Appreciate it!
Is there an easy way to update the app on a fire tablet? Also, anyone know if there are plans to just put it on the Amazon app store?
