In my last session i was able to obtain a mastiff puppy from a shop in town. I am a lvl 4 druid currently and we are pretty early on in the campaign so i am not to worried about it being a puppy and training it; that being said i was wondering if there is anyway of speeding up the aging process to age it so it can be useful in combat. (again i do not mind aging it normaly and just going through the campaign it was just a question, considering i am new to d&d.
As far as I can recall, there isn't anything in the standard game that has that sort of effect, but I may be wrong.
It might be worth discussing with your DM anyway though. Maybe they'd be interested in making it the subject of an upcoming sidequest or something. Depending on your game, your DM, and their current plans, it may not or may not be a good fit, so you'll just have to see how it goes. Even if they don't want to do anything with it in the immediate future, the fact that you want to develop that aspect of the game is good info for your DM to have.
There are no real rules to this. An old sorcerer could be working on a scroll or contraption that speeds up the life process.
It can be done if you're clever enough to set the ball in motion. If you brought this to me as your GM I would fully write a story line for it to happen. There would be consequences as well. I would ask that a quest he fulfilled and the price for advancing the mastiff would cost you to give up certain things. You might lose some int or str or wis points that was needed for the process.
In DND we are the creators and nothing is impossible.
