is there a way to add mundane items to dnd beyond i know i can create magic items but is there a way to enter modern weapons and so forth? i cant seam to find it
I want to add a custom mundane item to a custom background I've created. I don't just want it to be a piece of text, I want it to have mundane item properties.

The only mundane items that have properties are weapons and armor.
That's not true. Mundane items have (at least) weight and cost properties.
These can impact the game -- encumbrance being the obvious one, but I've been in sessions where someone lost all items over a certain value, or where the DM required PCs to stow heavy gear before certain tasks.
Plus, it looks a little hokey in the items list! One of the things I love about D&D Beyond is that I can homebrew stuff and have it show up looking as clean and professional and impact my char the same way as if it were built into the app. That extensibility is glorious, but sorely missed in this case.

The character sheet can add custom items (with weight and go value) in the manage equipment sidebar. There is no tool for backgrounds to be able to make these items automatically, but it can be done manually.

Homebrewing mundane items is on the roadmap, but for now you can add custom items directly to the character sheet from the Manage Equipment option

Custom items are perfect for any non-magic item that is not armor or a weapon. Homebrew base armor and weapons is planned.
It should be noted that modern firearms are already statted in the DMG.
