I'm just looking at the Baldurs Gates 3 demo on IGN (nerdgasms).
Anyway it got me thinking about shields. My own Dnd character is a gnome cleric who uses a sheild. I feel if a character has the skill to use a sheild it should be utilized more than an AC buff. One idea I had was a 'gaurded retreat' bonus action where you could withdraw from a close melee opponent using your shield so the opponent had no oppotunity of attack a bit like disengage more used more defensively.
Sheilds have such huge iconography and we have films like Troy and Captain America that show us how a shield can be used and if I got a shield I wanna do a legolas and skate down steps in Helmdeep.
Excuse spelling mistakes and love 5e this is a mere suggestions is all,

I don't think all shields should get a bonus action disengage.
More importantly, DDB doesn't effect the rules.
If you want more from your shield than just an AC bonus, you can get the Shield Master feat for Bonus Action Shoving and better Dex saves:
