I recently purchased DnD Beyond and want to start managing my campaign with it.
The thing is, I currently have an artificer playing, which is using the 2016 UA rules. He would like to keep using this class but I can't seem to find it on the character creator.
I assume you mean the 2017 Artificer (there's no 2016 Artificer on the Wizards UA articles archive).
This artificer has never been on D&D Beyond as no UA content from before January 2018 has been added to the site.
You should also probably be aware that there have been 3 artificer releases since then; the artificer revised, the artificer returns (a revised version of the revised version) and the official version released in Eberron: Rising from the Last War.
D&D Beyond only over offers the latest version of any content; be it the latest UA revision or the officially released version as is the case with the Artificer.
If you want to use the old version you will have to Homebrew it using the homebrew tools. Otherwise your only option is to use the released version.
Actually this might not be possible; the 2017 artificer is very different from the officially released versions and is likely not compatible. Because you can't currently homebrew base classes, recreating the original UA artificer might not be something that can be done.
Well it can be bodged a little - like the Revised Ranger is - you just have to remember which features you should ignore. But yea - it definitely wouldn't be easy.
