I've been toying around with the idea of a Blood Mage Class. Logically I think it should be a Constitution Caster, does this sound like a bad idea? I know the game has nothing else close to this, but thematically it seems like the right choice. A caster who essentially uses their own life force to cast spells.
My current plan is to make it similar to a Warlock so the class would gain spells up to the 5th level through normal means, and then have a special feature giving them the higher levels spells with special conditions.
The basic Spell concept is based on a new mechanic I'm calling "Corruption Points"
Blood Magic You draw your power from the very life force inside you. Arcane energy flows through your veins begging to be harnessed and released. Rather than using spell slots like most casters, you cast your spells directly with your own Corruption.
The number of Corruption Points required to cast a spell varies by spell level 1-5.
Spell Level Corruption Point Cost
1st-> 2
2nd->3
3rd-> 5
4th-> 6
5th-> 7
Corruption Points Immediately after completing a long rest, roll a number of d8’s equal to your corruption dice count equal to your level in this class. You gain a number of Corruption points equal to 1 + the amount rolled. These points represent the total amount of Life Essene that you can exert until you complete your next long rest. To cast one of your Blood Mage spells of 1st level and higher you must expend a number of Corruption Points equal to the level of at which you would like to cast the Spell.
Balance wise you'd definitely need abilities that cost HP to use because the caster would have far more HP than any other caster would. I mean most classes want their main stat and Con - but your class would only need Con. It's too much of a benefit with no cost.
Personally I would not only have abilities which use HP - but also add features which use a secondary stat like Wisdom or something so they don't just make every other stat a dump stat.
I was thinking about making the caster spend there hit dice as part of there spell casting, so they would have a lot of HP but difficult to heal. I also considered giving them a d4 hit dice because I assume they will rush 20 con.

Thoughts?
Blood hunters do this, they even have a caster subclass.
I always thought blood hunters should use con as their casting ability.
con caster seems cool

CON caster would be a fun class to design. It would be pretty different than any current classes.
