The problem is that sidekicks are part of the Dragon of ice Spire Peak box set. So since the additional content for that box ends at 12, so do the sidekicks. I think you can use the current rules to level the spellcaster up without much trouble, maybe the warrior too. But the Expert is a bit more difficult. I'd use rogue as a guideline for it's progression, just no subclass.
No official rules, but on DMs Guild, there are quite a few great sidekick products, many of which get into the higher levels. For example, there's a series called Adventure Sidekicks that has sidekicks for each of WotC's official adventures (disclaimer: I was project lead and helped write the one for Out of the Abyss that has sidekicks up to 15th level). Most of the writers of those have worked on many different sidekicks, so have built up a fair amount of experience writing and balancing sidekicks.
Is there any lore/tips or stats somewhere on how to create sidekicks beyond 12th level? Or are sidekicks suppose to max out at 12th level?

Agreed with Keeroth. Try your best to follow the pattern already established.

Thanks for the advice folks :)
