I've been working on a Warrior/Wizard like concept for days but I can't find something very promising. That's why I would like to know if you guys ever created something looking like this. The aim is to play a fighter character that would augment his abilities by using magic.
This character would have a noble backstory, from Yartar (I want it to be in something including Neverwinter because it has to reach that city to start playing) and must have temporarily left his family due to... a conflict between rules/customs and lovestory... well, that's for the pitch.
So I started working on something like Human (+1 all stats) Eldricht Knight/Hexblade Warlock but if I feel that it would be very cool to play, I fear a lack of magical slots. I ended up with something like 14/10/11/16/10/16... which is very non optimized. I also thought about Human (Variant), same classes with 14/10/10/16/10/14 with the feat Tough to balance de weak constitution. That's for lv1...
At the end I had Eldricht Knight 15 / 5 Hexblade Warlock in mind... but as I already said, i fear it to be weak. The main feats I would take are War Caster en then I would just add +1 strentgh, and full charisma...
Does anyone have a better idea? My main goal is really to play a fighter with magic support to enhance his fighting skills...
Personally I'd go Moutain Dwarf or Githyanki Wizard (or possible sorcerer), You'd get light and medioum armour proficiencies + some weapon proficicenies and all the spell slots you could need. You'd lack a litle on the HP front but you will have all the spells you could want to bolster yourself and your AC. False Life and Shield early on going up to various investitures and Tensers Transformations later on.
But as you say you want fighter with magic support then Eldritch Knight might be your bet if you want Arcane spells but Paladin would probably out perform it on the spell side if you want the divine connection.

I thought about a Paladin build... the thing is, i see the Paladin with a strong connection with Gods... furthermore with one of them and I don't want that side of my RP, even if the Oath of Heroism (UA) would fit well... unfortunately that's only an oath.
If you are willing to switch to elf, half -elf or convince your dm to lift the restriction. I would go bladeslinger. Pros - you could be a highly defensive character. Con.. you do have a wizard hp.
I will stay as a human... if my character dies I will reroll with a bladesinger as you made me curious of it :).
So then... According to you what should I go for? Human (variant) eldricht / hexblade then?
(I looked only at spell slots... maximizing them I thought about Eldricht 12 / Hexblade 3/ Wizard sch. of abj. 5. That would give spellcaster lv9 in the end.... which seems to be largely efficient with the first levels of warlock spells. But, one more time, I really don't know if this will be... "viable" if I consider mid or long-term....)
Bear in mind you are going to need 3+ stats at 13+ for the multiclassing so it depends very much on the justifications for doing it and you might have to be very particular/careful with spell selection. I've done a character for a one shot before who was a lvl 12 Ranger (gloomstalker)/Warlock (Celestial, pact of chain)/Wizard (Bladesinger) before and it was a fun to play but not as efficient as a 2 class combo could be, you'll have to figure your spell DC/to hit bonuses to be lower than a single or dual class character.
Eldritch Knight, Hexblade, and Bladesinger all meet the requirements, but Battlesmith Artificer and College of Swords or Valor Bard would work too. Your first level feat could be Magic Initiate and pick Wizard for Artificer or Sorc for Bard and then pick up Green Flame Blade or Booming Blade as cantrips.
Honestly, for a noble that has left his family, a Bard would work very well for a variety of reasons.

Hi there!

Eldritch Knight, it is literally made for this.

There are a lot of options for this honestly.
