I'm very new to D&D Beyond, and I want to make a campaign or just join one. Problem is, I literally know nobody. Do I just invite random people, hoping they're interested, do I create a thread for DMs who need players-or players who need a DM- or is there some other option? Should I just give up completely?
Check your area and see if any local game shops or nerdy bars (if you're over 21) are running dnd nights, see if you can hop into a group, make people's acquaintence, and maybe after playing a few games in the shop, pitch the idea of a home game and see who's interested. Or if you start to get along with people, see if they have a home game they might like to invite you to (don't invite yourself though, awkward). For all the guff the hobby used to get, DND is a GREAT way to meet people and widen your social sphere.
If you're looking for a game online, then it's even easier. DnD Discord servers are always looking for more players and DM's, and I know both the DnDBeyond and Roll20 forums have an LFG ("looking for group") section where you can let people know that you're looking to get into a game. Then you just see who's running what type of game on what schedule and see which one works best for you. If you want to run a game then you can make your own post, just make sure to describe what kind of game you want it to be and probably disclose that you're new at it just so players are aware.
Don't invite random people who don't know you. That's just weird, no offense. :p It can also lead to awkwardness and miserable groups if people get together to play but have very different ideas of what's fun and what's appropriate. The idea is to look for others that want similar things from a game as you do.
As CharlesThePlant said, you have lots of options to either look for a group to join or to advertise your own game in hopes of people who are looking for one joining. Aside from the ones he mentioned, you can also try googling "dungeons and dragons [insert the area in which you're willing to travel here]" and see what comes up, or you can look for open games (some clubs and gaming shops have them, and there's also Adventurers League) - though I appreciate that with the ongoing covid situation this may be more difficult right now.
When you say you literally don't know anybody I assume you mean you don't know anybody who already plays D&D. That doesn't mean some of the people you do know might not be interested in giving it a try. You can always ask friends or family - worst thing they can do is say no.
I find people on the street, kidnap them, and play D&D with my hostages. I try to make the games fun but they always complain about their binds being too tight and wanting to see the light of day smh

Ooh yeah this is a great suggestion. I found my main group (after a few false starts) by looking for a game on the local D&D Facebook group. If you live in or near a bigger city especially, they probably have one too.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
