Monstrosities are hugely versatile; there is a monstrosity for almost everything. Dragons are cool, but you probably will only ever get to be a young or wyrmling, so you don't get much diversity.

A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.
Are you playing a Moon Druid? Because if you are following the normal CR restrictions for Wildshape then any druid other then Moon can only become CR 1 creatures, which limits you to a Pseudodragon, Ambush Drake, Brass and Copper Wyrmling or Faerie Dragon (Orange, red and Yellow). Even if you are playing a moon Druid, your strongest option will be a Red Wyrmling with the CR 4 restriction.
I am a moon druid yes. And don't only think about wild shape, also think about polymorph when it comes to CR matters.
Well, polymorph only allows for beasts but as a moon druid you can turn into elementals at level 10. That said, if your DM is changing the rules for you I'd say that monstrosities have more versatility, dragons are generally cooler. For me it would come down to RP factors. What is your character like as a person and what would suit them best?
To me, this would depend on the character themselves. What do they think of the options, rather than you? Do they have any historical relations, interactions, or desires related to either grouping? Or perhaps against one of them?
So, I am a lvl 14 druid. I am given the choice by the DM to choose between monstrosities or dragons.
Whatever I choose I will be able to polymorph and wild shape into.
Which one would you choose and why?

My Improved Lineage System
While I love dragons, I would go with monstrosities 100% as there are just so many more options.

I would choose dragons. They are not the optimal choice, they are the cool choice.

ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!

Monstrosities: more thematically relevant, more versatile, and not OP (dragons are intentionally underrated by CR).

There is a lot more variety to monstrosities. But then Dragons have the wow factor.
