I am new to DnD and have loads of questions. I am trying to figure this website out and create a character. I am also looking to join a game once I do.
I used to love the old DnD Cartoon and fell in love with the character Ramoud from the episode, City at the Edge of Midnight. I even created a Homebrew magic weapon I saw him use in the show. You can search it under "Sonic Scimitar".
There is the New Players Guide Tab that I would recommend looking at. After that, play around with the character creator and see if you can figure it out, then ask questions when you need help!
Somethings will not be available to you right away because you need to purchase online content from dnd beyond to have access to stuff. If you dont want to invest any money then I would recommend starting by flavoring what you can do with RP especially since the Holy Slayer isn't a class in the game. It will probably take some multiclassing, but you could defiantly do it.
As far as joining a group, there is an entire forum dedicated to finding people that you can play with, that you can find here.
Also, communication is important. Be sure to communicate with your dm about what you want and be open to what they want from the game. Not every group is going to work, and it may take a bit of time before you find a group that you really fit well with. Again, i can not reiterate enough how important it is to talk to your dm about expectations and desires from the game.
I don't believe 5th edition has published any source material that would have been found in the Al Qadim book(s), so you will probably have to home brew anything from that source.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
To play a Holy Slayer you could do a lot with your background there is the option to customise yourt background and you don't have to use the options for trait ideal bond and flaw.
I think an assassin rogue would probably the best fit (though this isn't a free subclass you would need to purchase it or the whole PHB). You could usethe criminal or Faction Agent (from sword coast advenuter's guide) background and then make your Bond to your grandparent and a flaw along the line of I will obey without question any order given my my grandparent even if it is suicidal.
The original class was a thief but that was changed to Rogue and the Holy Slayer was an Assassin so it would likely be Rogue Assassin. They were something like Paladin's from what I have read. Some of what you wrote is a bit like Latin to me...It's intimidating and a bit overwhelming. Ugh.

Paladins are Lawful Good warriors in service of a deity (or possibly an ideal), taking an oath to uphold the ideals this deity espouses. I think what you read is that Holy Slayers are as restricted by their background as paladins are - their loyalty to their organisation is as uwavering as a paladin's dedication to his oath. Lawful fits if you look at it the right way (the Holy Slayer prestige class required the character to be Lawful), but Good is not an appropriate alignment for a Holy Slayer and their allegiance is to their organisation and their superiors, not to a god or an ideal.
I would suggest taking a look at the character builder (open up the Tools pull-down menu at the top of this page and click on character builder) and just going through it once or twice (go beyond 1st level as well, so you can see some more of the class benefits). Don't try to create a Holy Slayer right away, just look at the different steps and what options you have for them without paying anything. Once you understand the different steps in the process, you can see what fits and what you don't have anything appropriate for. If you think you can't build something that corresponds with your idea, come back and ask for some guidance about where to find something better. Maybe you missed something, maybe you might have to buy something to unlock the option - either way, we'll be able to help you better if you understand the system first and can ask more precise questions and understand more technical answers.
Generally speaking though, I'd go with Rogue for your class selection and take the Thief archetype at level 3 (I believe Holy Slayers are all human, though I'm not completely up on the lore, so that choice is easy). Assassin arguably sounds even better, but is a difficult archetype to (get to) play effectively due to how some of their abilities work in practice, and especially so if you want to play a character who uses a melee weapon (as Holy Slayers do). You could multiclass later on, but I'd stay away from multiclassing until you know the system and classes well enough to understand the implications of that.
So, go check out the character builder, then maybe try what you can come up with using the Rogue class, and if you still have questions we'll be happy to help.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
Not all Paladins are Lawful Good. That restriction was dropped in 5e.
In 5E, yes. Back when Al-Qadim was a current setting, the restriction was very much in place. Regardless, even allowing for rare exceptions the description of the 5E paladin really doesn’t mesh with an entire organisation of assassins.

Ah yeah, that's right Al-Qadim was like 2nd edition wasn't it.
Still, it should be relatively easy to just make a Rogue Assassin and reskin it with the holy slayer flavor.
Yup, AD&D if memory serves.
It would be easy to just use an Assassin archetype Rogue, but for a new player who's still getting comfortable with the mechanics I'd stay away from Assassin. Especially melee Assassin (Holy Slayers all use one-handed weapons, according to the setting info). Getting to use the Assassinate ability is unreliable and kind of messy rules-wise. The Thief archetype fits as well for a Holy Slayer and helps with getting in and out of places undetected, I'd go with that.

I was wondering why could not just say I am lv 17 character if you've never played before or are new an played only one game?
It's easier to get into things with a low level character if you don't have a lot of experience playing. Mostly the level you start at just depends on the DM and the game they want to run though.

yeah, you can get used to the features as you gain them and settle in the class and get more confident with it. In my opinion (for what it's worth, which may be 0 to nothing, but here goes), starting at level 17 is outright crazy even for seasoned players because of the info overload (as in TMI!!!); the stress is just too much, methinks. There's probably a reason why many begin their characters at 1st or 3rd level, and not because they're wimps...

XP leveling is based off earning experience points overcoming monsters and challenges to earn your next level. Milestone leveling is set by the DM when they feel you have overcome a significant challenge and tells you to level up.

I am looking to create a character based on the Al Qadim - themed Zakhara land. I just don't know how to create a Holy Slayer character?? https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Holy_slayer
Really looking to learn more and play as a hobby.
Any suggestions or advice are appreciated.

I actually have all the information because I found the Al Qadim books and the Holy Slayer info in Assassin's Mountain as part of Al Qadim.

Rogue Shadow, the DM (and occasional) PC with schemes of inventive thinking
Thanks I was just wondering. also how should I upgrade my lv and when?
you can either do XP or milestone, depends on the DM and the campaign
Rogue Shadow, the DM (and occasional) PC with schemes of inventive thinking
what is the difference between the two
The DM will tell you when to level.
XP leveling is based off earning experience points overcoming monsters and challenges to earn your next level. Milestone leveling is set by the DM when they feel you have overcome a significant challenge and tells you to level up.
