So being completely new to DnD I can't quite make out which books I need to get to play as a Hexblade tiefling warlock and/or a rogue warforged with the investigator version of city watch (a robot p.i, yay!)
Basic Rules/SRD has the tiefling, Xanathar's Guide to Everything has the Hexblade (Also in Unearthed Arcana pdf), Sword Coast Adventure's Guide has the City Watch/Investigator (But you can homebrew that background if you wanted to), Warforged is Unearthed Arcana so it's free from WotC for now.
So I guess I'm saying if you're not using D&D Beyond you can play all of those for free.
If you are using D&D Beyond you'll need to purchase the Hexblade sub-class from Xanathar's on the 10th and you'd have to wait for Race Homebrew implementation (likely next year) for the Warforged race and purchase the Investigator Background from SCAG.
