Humans are always a classic I fall back on, but I put tiefling in the poll as I love the extraplanar stuff.
If all species were included, I'd pick genasi as the elemental themes are something I adore (Bionicle got me into the elemental stuff almost 20 years ago and I've love it since).
My favorite character: Ford Subaru, Gnome with a quarterstaff and polearm master feat. Their stick is better than bacon, and in a throw down smart money is on the Gnome with a quarterstaff vs any Murderhobo with a Shotgun.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
It's the default race (or should be). It's the real "us." All the other races are (or should be) symbolic, but humans are just human.
Agreed! That’s why a good 50% of my characters are human. It can make for deeper roleplay. Also dwarves are criminally underrated, probably because the Tolkien movies really botched their portrayal.
While this wasn't originally so, I do enjoy playing halflings a lot more than I anticipated. I think its a combination of their versatility in terms of racial traits and abilities, coupled with their nomadic and somewhat carefree natures. With the exception of Ghostwise which is frankly still cool as heck, they come off to me as the anti-edgelord race. Just crackin' wise and taking one day at a time.
Both characters that I've played and the character I've rolled up for my next game are all Hill Dwarves, so I guess my favorite race would be Dragonborns.
Kidding, it's dwarves.

Flavorwise? Human! you can do so many different things with them. Almost any character I can come up with can be a human, with some exceptions. Mechanically? Human! you can do so many different things with them. Almost any build I can come up with can be a human, with some exceptions.

I have three characters that I play over and over.
From the races presented, the Dragonborn is my favorite followed closely by the Human and Tiefling.
Outside of that I really like the Grung, Kenku, Kobold, Lizardfolk, Tortle, Warforged, and Yuan-ti Pureblood. Honestly any of the weirder and more monstrous races tend to tickle my fancy.

Besides human, I love elf. My favorite elf is the 4e Cha-Int sun elf. Love the immortality, love the magic, love the otherworldliness, love the hedonism, love the beauty. I prefer the Norse version, of sunlight sky flavor.
In the future, I want to see Large player races. In the 5e gaming system they are balanced, because the reasons why they were broken in previous editions (long reach, multi-opp-attacks) no longer exist.

Another poll just for fun! I only added PHB races because everyone has access to those and frankly there's way too many options otherwise.
Also, I've probably played the most humans, but halflings for the win! (Cue LotR Shire theme.)
Wizard (Gandalf) of the Tolkien Club

I guess I am biased but... human.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.

But hobbits are still my favorite. :-)
Wizard (Gandalf) of the Tolkien Club
My favourite is Genasi - but out of the poll options I think my favourite would be Dwarf.
Mega Yahtzee Thread:
Highest 41: brocker2001 (#11,285).
Yahtzee of 2's: Emmber (#36,161).
Lowest 9: JoeltheWalrus (#312), Emmber (#12,505) and Dertinus (#20,953).
From the PHB list, I am certainly in the minority, but Gnomes are my favorite. From the "classic" list of races, it's gotta be the Dwarf.
If the other sources were allowed, I would probably answer Gnome still, but it would be very tempting to say Lizardfolk or Warforged.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms

I like dragon born of the PHB
My favorite overall is the leonin
My favorite "classic" race is elf
You could have also included the EEPC, as everyone has access to it, and its not too many more, only 3.
Looks like dragon born is winning.

My favorite payable race are Warforged, but I've often been drawn to humans as well
I like elves, preferably high elves. The long lifespan helps with finding a way towards immortality, in turn allowing more research and travel.

There's no Tabaxi option. For shame.
Frankly, I like exotic options. "Classic" doesn't interest me as much as trying diverse character types.
