So I am working on making a Verdan necromancer because verdan is on my list of things i want to play and i love necromancer (not just minions but also the necrotic theme) but i really don't like the way wizard of the coast did wizard necromancer... So I have decided on doing 3 levels of warlock hexblade with pact of the tome along with divine sorcerer because it's the only way i can make the necromancer i want I will just have to consciously avoid abusing the coffeelock setup too much (basically i will balance it myself through my own rp actions).
So my plan is to take both tome of the moon and devil sight for him since he will be going pact of the tome, I chose the outlander background because I am working a backstory of him being raised by goblins but always being "different" and eventually the goblins bully him out of the clan which leads him trying to find his place in the world making his goal on his journy to find why he is the way he is, why does he have necrotic and divine energy both flowing through his being, why is his blood black while his kin bleed red, why does he keep growing while his kin stops growing? I plan to flavor the warlock side of things with the tome to be part of his heritage along with the source of his power, I want his knowledge of using weapons and armor to come naturally as if somehow the knowledge was forced upon him!
I want to offer the DM the ability to make the origin of his uniqueness so it surprises even me, but if I had to say I wouldn't mind something like a bored powerful being or even just a wizard experimenting lead to it. Maybe he came across the experiment and was infected at a young age?
Anyways still fleshing out the rp stuff still and wanted some opinions and maybe some ideas bounced back at me to help me make him more interesting! here is what i plan for him to look like btw! https://www.heroforge.com/load_config=12930173/
Natural affinity for weapons and armour from your warlock could be interpreted as you being the "clone" of a legendary (think lvl 20) Hobgoblin Devestator, they have racial armour and weapon proficincies, maybe your spell casting and form is merely the result of a botched attempt of the hobgoblins to reincarnate their deceased leader, rather than put the soul into a new body it bounced into a goblin and you came into being. Your Divine magics are this legendary hobgoblin aiding you from the afterlife to nuture and protect you as you are carrying a small speck of its soul, not enough to really impede its travel in the afterlife but enough to channel some of it magic.

oh i like this idea! especially if my DM plans to do something scientific at all I could flavor it as a clone! Like you know how often times when experimenting with cloning tech you get a weaker version? something like that could be cool, god this opens some more ideas lol, or if we went fantasy what if the hobgoblins blood or whatever being it was infected him which explains the black blood being abnormal!
