Are there any plans to update Aurora's and bring it from 2nd edition up to 5th? I loved many of the extras in that and would really love to have updated rulings on many of the things. Also the flavor of some of the items was really great and would be epic to have even more (like the many cheeses and different wines and such)
I have never heard of this but it does make me curious. In all honesty it is not too difficult to take 2e content and update it to 5e, at least that is how I have felt taking some older modules and bringing them up to date with creatures and events and such. Currently finishing prepping The Lizard King from old source material and it hasn't been difficult to use the old stuff.

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
I love the Aurora Whole Realms Catalogue. It is one of my favourite D&D books of all time. Unfortunately, I don't see any possibility of a future product for 5e coming out that would even be closely related to it, let alone be a rework/update of it. It was a very niche product in its day and it's just not something that could be expanded in a manner that would make it appealing to a modern D&D audience, or to fulfil the current design and layout paradigm of rules books.

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
Now I am doubly curious about this, time to find a pdf and peruse it.

I am sad...i love the book and MOST of it has no rules at all just flavor, but some dms hear about the kinda odd stuff like nonmagic items that help with stealth and such and they go "NOPE!"
Man I started looking through it bit, and it is super cool. Some of the items would be pretty cool to use in the game, and even stuff for stealth you just give a small bonus, or it negates disadvantageous circumstances.

I want something like this mixed with the arms and equipment guide from 3e. I wonder what character they would have narrating the book. The first one that comes to mind is Jarlaxle, mostly because its a fun and lighthearted and witty. I am trying to think of good salesman or merchant that would be suitable for it.

you should read the original 2e Arms & Equipment! had MUCH more flavor (though i DO think the 3rd had more actual stuff)
Time for some classic reading material it seems.

yeah it was epic i really loved the flavor stories it had for the weapons and such. kinda like how shadowrun has the seasoned runners who comment on all the products in their books. it's a format I love cause it makes it feel more real.
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add a thought.
Those of you who are looking at the PDF of this book are only getting part of the experience. The content is a lot of fun - but so is the presentation. You see, the book is a small trade-paperback-sized book with a soft cover and printed on newsprint - just like a lot of catalogues are printed.
(I bought mine in summer 1993, according to the price tag, and thankfully, the newsprint is aging gracefully. It doesn't seem to have yellowed more than a little, and the paper hasn't turned brittle the way that low-grade versions of newsprint can often do.)
If you like this book, you owe it to yourself to pick up a physical copy.

Played and DMed since Moldvay Basic/Expert and 1E AD&D. Preserve the ampersand!
yeah it was actually formatted to emulate an actual catalog from a general store in the old west. they really paid attention to details too like the color of the paper was more old looking than a standard book. the ONLY thing that didn't feel old about it was the cover itself.
I desperately want an updated version of this for 5th edition. It's my favorite D&D book of all time. Rising Phoenix Games made three small add-on catalogues themed around the seasons, but I can only seem to find them in PDF. I haven't bought them yet but I'm sooooorely tempted. I would love for this book to be updated.

I have a copy of that in a box someplace--it was super handy back in the day.
