I've used D&D Beyond on and off over the last couple of years to manage characters, and I'm looking to start using it a bit more. I already own quite a few physical sourcebooks (PHB, XGtE, TCoE, DMG, SCAG, MM, VGtM, MToF), and I'm not looking to spend too much money repurchasing it digitally. I'm willing to put in the work homebrewing official character options (races, subclasses, spells, etc.) as I need them. I'm wondering what character options from official sources cannot be recreated with homebrew and would need to be unlocked by purchasing the relevant content. For example, I know I can't homebrew the Artificer class, and I can only unlock it by purchasing at least one of the Artificer subclasses from TCoE or one of the other sources that includes it. I also know that all of the optional class features added in TCoE (like Wild Companion for Druids, in my case) can only be made available by purchasing the whole book. Is there other content like this that isn't part of the Basic Rules, but can't be recreated with homebrew?
With the exception of Artificer base class anything else the character sheet is able to implement and support from official options can be recreated by homebrew.
This is because the homebrew system is based off the same tools the devs use to make official content on here.
Even things that are not yet implemented properly from official sources, like Piety from MOoT, or temporary effects like Rage or some spells like Mage Armor, can be implemented using homebrew workarounds (typically, feats or magic items).

It's currently not possible to homebrew the Kensei Monk. The Modifier Type "Kensei" and its 3 subtypes are hidden so you can't make a subclass which can add kensei weapons (giving them proficiency and counting as monk weapons).
Technically, we cannot access any base class features in the homebrewer so it is also currently impossible to homebrew any Eldritch Invocations, Pact Boons, Mystic Arcana, Fighting Styles, Maneuvers, Metamagic Options, or Infusions. We can also not homebrew Class Feature Options for the base classes, only for subclasses. As such, certain elements from both Xanathar’s and Tasha’s are not currently possible to recreate for free using the DDB homebrewer.
