Hey again everyone! Sorry for the rapid thread posts, but I have a ton of ideas for magic items I'd like to share, and this one is way simpler than the previous one.
This magic weapon has a +1 to attack rolls, and you gain 1d4 force damage to a successful attack.
As a bonus action, you can summon this magic weapon back to your hand if it's not on your person.
(EDIT: just thought of a potential alternative for the damage bonus idea; 1d6 force damage without a bonus to attack rolls.)
Yep, there's the summoning property again, although I feel it fits better with this item than the previous one. What do you all think, though? What rarity should I give this item, which I REALLY hope isn't too overpowered.
It deals less bonus damage (2-5, average 3.5) than a Flame Tongue (2-12, average 7) but has +1 to hit by comparison. However, the way that item rarity is calculated is somewhat baffling, given that frost brand is considered Very Rare despite doing only 1d6 bonus damage as though having resistance to fire damage is worth losing 1d6 damage compared to the Flame Tongue.
So basically, I'd say that this item is comparable to a Flame Tongue, but better than Frost Brand.
I wouldn't count the summoning ability as important for determining rarity. It might come into play once, twice across the course of a campaign. Eldritch Knights go their entire careers without ever having cause to use Weapon Bond.
IMHO, +1 to hit is less then a damage bonus, unless you game has a lot of creatures that require specific magic pluses to hit them.
Force damage from what I have been told is rarely resistant to so it is more powerful then having additional slash damage. But again you have to determine just how much more beneficial in your game.
And last but not least IMHO you have to ask the WHY and HOW questions unless this is just a thought exercise on your part.

Against high armor class enemies, +1 to hit is hugely more powerful than a +1 to damage.
If you would normally only hit an enemy on a natural 20, then +1 doubles your average damage, for example.
If you need 16 or higher to hit the enemy, and have an average damage of 12 (2d6+5), then your average damage is 3.35 per attack.
With +1 damage per attack - 13 (2d6+6) average damage increases to 3.6 damage per attack.
With +1 to hit instead (so hitting on a 15 instead of a 16) and still dealing 12 (2d6+5) damage, your average damage is 3.95.

Very Rare.
It's essentially a +3 weapon that doesn't get a bonus to attack rolls, plus the summoning thing.

That is somehow both confusing, yet makes perfect sense. What about the summoning ability, though? Do you think that would change the rartiy by a lot?
