A common issue with combat efficacy is that it just feels bad when you have two bonus actions that need to be set up to be the best you can be in combat, but you can only do one per turn. For example, Lycan Blood Hunters require their bonus action for both their Crimson Rite and their Lycan form, forcing them to choose on their first turn between more damage and more resistance, and only on their third turn can they use a bonus action Blood Maledict. So, I propose the following home rule:
At the beginning of your turn in combat, you can choose to forego your action and reduce your speed to 0. When you do, you gain an additional bonus action for this turn. This bonus action can be used for any ability that allows you to use your bonus action except a spell, as with the spiritual weapon or arcane hand spells, or with the Mage Hand Legerdemain feature of the Arcane Trickster subclass. Consult your DM before using this bonus action to make sure your use is valid.
