OK... so there is a faction among the gith where the Githzerai and the Githyanki work together hoping to bring the gith back together as one race. I was looking at a case where this faction had a lost Black Citadel outpost in the underdark that was fairly close to a large duergar outpost foundry. An alliance was formed to help defend against a mindflayer colony and its slave army when they went on the march. The alliance was able to drive the enemy away after a hard fight, but the enemy was not destroyed completely. For many decades, perhaps centuries, this alliance has stood the test of time and some intermixing has occurred between the Duergar and the Gith.
I was creating a new race to represent this mixing. I used the Duergar as a template. The only thing I changed was Duergar to Duergerai, and I changed Duergar Magic to Duergerai Psionics making it have the same abilities as the Githzerai Psionics from that race. Those are literally the only changes I made to the Duergar race template.
It says I can't share it with the community because it is too similar to Vuelsa [Red Panda race]..... These are IN NO WAY EVEN REMOTELY similar.
Not sure if DDB link to info page for my race will work but here it is Duegeraias it is.
Can anyone explain what is making this happen???
I have ran into this with some other creations as well, where it says it is too similar to something else, yet looking at whatever it is supposed to be similar to, I can not find ANY similarities..... what is going on here?
Usually errors in saying "too similar to [random homebrew here]" is often because something is missing - like you don't have enough text in the description box or something. Or sometimes it's because you edited it but didn't hit the big Save Changes button (usually its orange) - as this forces the validation to fully re-check. The error checking system is not the smartest so it doesn't always report the right error message when validation fails or if it detects an edit not fully saved.
Only mods can see your unpublished homebrew, so if you consider taking a screen shot we can see what you've put and provide feedback, or you can wait for a mod.
