This is my first thread, and I just need some help navigating the subclass homebrew options.
So, with this modified Four Elements, instead of using ki points, the monk would have a custom spell list with elementally themed spells. I think it's a much better way to do things, and you can use your ki points on other things.
Anyway, I'm having trouble creating the spell list as it appears for a normal magic user. How can I create a unique spell list, and set the amount of spells one gets at each level?
Rip off the Eldritch Knight method. I'm not kidding - for the most part, the Path of the Four Elements follows the same progression as Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster. You cap at out at level 4 magic, and you gain each level of spells at roughly the same time, iirc. Wizard list has all the appropriate spells you could want as well.
The main difference, of course, is that you're using daily spell slots intsead of a short rest power source, but its doable since that is your goal anyways. You'll need to come up with some alternate benefits at progressive levels too, instead of just "learn new spells."
+1 for the EK method. Use Druid instead of Wizard for the spell list, and include spells from Xanathar's since that vastly expands your elemental options.

Other than that, there's already a pretty good remastered version of the Four Elements monk available.
