So I have recently published a homebrew (subclass) here for the first time in the near year and a half I have been on the server. I have been making content off site however for even longer than this. I was excited by the idea of using this as a new way to playtest and get critiques for my work. Upon "finishing" the homebrew and publishing it however, I noticed something. An oversight. I had accidentally forgotten to add a clarification in one of the features, but when I went back to correct it I noticed there was no such option to edit the document.
Upon doing some legwork and researching this, I had discovered once I publish a homebrew, I, the content creator, can no longer edit or tweak the existing document. Now, despite this being a major disappointment on multiple levels, I am now stuck with a strange dilemma. Without the option to edit or delete, I have to choose between the following:
1) let the error sit in the homebrew section forever like a permanent reminder of my mistake/oversight.
2) make a new version, will simultaneously just adding confusion and cluttering the homebrew page.
3) Report myself to get it removed, while hoping this doesn't cause me to get a strike or some other punishment like account deletion.
I would love your thoughts on how you all feel I should proceed with this?
P.S. I just want to say the option of not allowing a content creator to edit nor delete their own documents feels very strange to me. Not only does this now make me hesitant to ever share content here again, for the simple paranoia I will build up assuredly of making another oversight like this and being unable to fix it, but it also eliminates this as a viable way to playtest the material. I love the service and what it offers, but when it comes to the homebrewing side I almost feel like I should simply stick to discord servers and reddit since there I am capable of still feeling like I own my work and can edit it, without feeling like the kid who has his teacher tell him he can't take his art off the wall, even though he wants too.
option (2) is the correct way to proceed, but I think you have misunderstood how the "new version" function works!
When you view your existing published homebrew and click the NEW VERSION button, the system creates a copy of the existing homebrew that is linked to the current version of the homebrew. When you are happy with your new version and publish it, that new version will be the one that appears when people view published homebrew.
They won't see multiple versions listed, however it is possible to view older versions by selecting the current version - there will be links to older versions at the bottom of that homebrew page.
Please don't do option (3) - the report function is there to allow users to report when there is a problem with the site, or other users are not adhering to the site rules. If it was intended to allow users to delete homebrew after publishing it, then there would be a button there to do this.
There's a good reason why homebrew will not be deleted, or directly edited, once it has been published - other people may be using it!
We cannot allow a situation where someone finds published homebrew they like and adds it to their character, only to find a few days later that the author has changed that homebrew to do something else.
Ah! I see. I think seeing just an initial duplicate of the document appear in my collection confused me on it's intentions and application. Thank you for the clarification.
Trust me, I never want to have to use 3). I know what's its true intentions are meant for, but I also knew it was a less deisrable final ditch effort in a worse case scenario.
