So I have a halfling in the group that enjoys climbing onto larger creatures. Does anyone know some good rules for this. The check for the halfling to climb the creature? The check for the creature to get them off? The benefits?
I would treat it similar to a grappling check (athletics vs athletics or acrobatics to get you off). As for benefits, I'd give you advantage to attack the creature, and the creature disadvantage on attacks against you (depending on the attack probably). You may also have some amount of cover from other enemies depending on creature sizes.

The DMG has rules for this in chapter 9. They involve a contest similar to grappling and treating the larger creature's space as difficult terrain.
