I want to create a bit of a scaling mechanic for pact of the chain, this is what I've come up with, feel free to poke holes in it. I'd also appreciate help in streamlining the language used in its description.
Shackles of the Chain Master
Pre-requisites: 9th level, Pact of the Chain feature
You perform an hour long ritual in which you cannot move. Upon completion of the ritual you attempt to bind a Fey, Celestial, Fiend, or Elemental within 60 feet of you and whose Challenge Rating is equal to half your warlock level rounded down. If the creature is unwilling, it makes a charisma saving throw against your spell save dc. On a success you may expend a warlock spell slot to make the creature repeat the saving throw. If the creature willingly submits or fails the saving throw, it takes the place of your familiar until it is banished, killed, or released. The creature makes its saving throw with disadvantage if it has been summoned by you or your ally.
In addition to the normal abilities of the pact of the chain feature, a shackled familiar has the following traits:
-The shackled familiar shares your initiative, and takes its turn immediately after yours.
-If the shackled familiar can be used as a mount, it can be treated as independent or controlled (your choice.) It takes an action on your turn to switch during combat.
-The shackled familiar obeys your commands (no action required), but may try to twist them in accordance to its nature and alignment.
-When you use your action to share senses with your shackled familiar, you can instead choose to take total and precise control of it. Until the start of your next turn, your shackled familiar takes only the actions you choose, and doesn't do anything that you don't allow it to do. You are blind, deafened, and paralyzed while you control your shackled familiar.
