I've been playing with some ideas for homebrew approach to the Eldritch Knight to try to better fit some concepts for my slowly coming together campaign.
Could I just take this archetype and just make it Charisma and not Intelligence based (possibly limited also to the sorc spell list?
As long as you can justify why those changes occur I can't see an issue with using Cha instead of Int for spellcasting, it would be worth noting though that the Sorcerer spell list is a little bit more limited than the Wizard for Abjuration/Evocation spells you're limited to initially. But as long as the spells you wanted are on the Sorcerer list it shouldn't make to much difference in the spell casting side of things. Here's a little crib sheet to show the differences in available Abjuration/Evocation spells for Sorcerer and Wizard from the PHB to show the spells you'll mostly be drawing from:
I'd allow it, but I'm considering letting all the spellcasting classes pick their casting attribute. I can find reasons for most all of them to use any of the other stats.

HUGE thanks Rob!
I'd allow it, but I'm considering letting all the spellcasting classes pick their casting attribute. I can find reasons for most all of them to use any of the other stats.
I did the same thing with an arcane trickster. Doesn't seem to cause any problems as long as DM is okay with it
