Hello everyone! I am new to DnD but am quickly falling in love. My first, and only, mini campaign started us at lvl 10 and we will be staying at lvl 10 till we are done. My group is planning on doing a proper campaign next though, starting from lvl 1 and going to wherever it ends up I guess. We are going to be making new characters and have been given the go ahead to get creative with our characters. So I have decided to create my own subclass for the Warlock. I've got a bit done but am having some trouble deciding on the additional spell list and some of the later patron boons.
I'll start from the top though. The Patron I have decided to make is called "The Sin Eater" (Figured I would use the same vague terminology as the rule page, aka "The Fiend" "The Archfey" etc). It is a fallen Celestial who was cast into the Abyss for taking too heavy a hand in the goings on of the Prime Material. Its punishment was supposed to entail it "redeeming" itself by fighting the demons there until it is overwhelmed. Instead of being overwhelmed though, it survives. Fighting smart, it survives, but is twisted by the planar energy and becomes more demonic itself. Eventually it is powerful enough to visit the Prime Material in order to enlist mortals to take up its crusade against the evil in the world, drawn specifically to those who have been victimized by criminals and the like.
Anyway onto the Pact Boons that I have in mind so far:
At 1st level the Warlock looses its sight but is granted a magical blind-sight and a proficiency to insight, the later being granted to help the Warlock see the true intentions of people so that they can better determine who is evil and in need of slaying.
At 6th level, the Warlock can now channel the energy of the Sin Eater through them and gain access to an ability I called "Devouring Smite" It is like a combination of Divine Smite and Vampire touch, except the Warlock only gains health back when they kill a creature with their ability.
At 10th level, I was thinking something along the lines of the adoption of the Patrons physical traits. The Patron is meant to be statuesque, with a hard skin, and so I was thinking natural armor but that really only works if you aren't wearing armor and I'd like to keep light armor for aesthetics at least. Maybe Demonic Constitituion, which could allow the Warlock to wear heavy armor, the Patron wearing plate armor itself? Is that good enough for a 10th level boon though? I don't know.
14th level boon is going to be a beastshape that allows the Warlock to transform into a lesser version of their Patron. The idea is that they would become a modified Battleforce Angel, or something like that. I play with a Druid who can beastshape into elementals, which are CR 5 creatures, and so I figured a CR5 celestial would make for a good comparable skill. But this is a 14th level skill and not a 10th, so maybe I could go higher in CR? Another possible place for suggestion.
Anyway, thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing any feedback I can get!
