So i made a homebrew War Chef. his custom starting weapons are a Giant ladle and a giant frying pan.
The ladle is a 1D6/1D8 Bludgeon Versatile Heavy Simple Weapon
and the Frying pan acts in two ways. Same stats as a Basic metal shield if used as a defensive. or as a weapon its a Simple Heavy Versatile Special 1D6/1D8 Bludgeoning weapon
the special of the frying pan is it adds +3 to AC if used to block an attack, is fire resistant if used to block fire, and can be used as a cooking tool.
I love it! It seems it would work great as a Brute fighter (UA subclass). I'm picturing a big rotund guy with a stained apron draped over his armor, a massive cast iron frying pan for a shield, and a big iron ladle for a weapon.
And every time he hits someone or reacts to something he uses some terrible food-related pun. Like, when something goes wrong and he says, "Well that really scrambles my eggs!" Or when he's about to smash somebody's face in and yells, "Vecna! Party of one!" *WHACK!* Or when he's flirting with someone, "Yeah, I'm no hero. I'm just arugula guy."
Like, remember when Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in that terrible Batman movie? THAT'S the level of puns I'm thinking of, but all food related.

I like the general idea of this. However..
A ladle probably would not do much damage. It's not a very heavy item. Now, a rolling pin on the other hand...
The frying pan's +3 to AC seems excessive. Shields in D&D are a +2 to AC now matter their size.
fair point. ill drop it to +2
My Spells, My Races, My Magic Items, My Monsters, My Subclasses,
i can hear a bonk in that one hahaha
