At 8th or 12th level, the player can couse this feat. (Wizards only)
When chosen, the wizard unlocks the ability to learn any spell from their chosen school,at the cost of another.
To decide which school of magic is lost, the player can roll a D8,with each side corresponding to a school,re-rolling on their school,or allow the player to chose which school is lost.
Also, the cost for copying a spell scroll of a non wizard spell of their school is 100-200 gold and takes 4-8 hours per level (depending on if l want the cost to be X2 or X4)
l was thinking Arcane Mastery, but that name was used by a 3.5 feat, and l don''t want any confusion. Maybe something related to a high ranking school position? Maybe Arcane Graduate?
(to be clear, this feat would allow a necromancy school wizard to be able to learn Revivify and True resurrection (and any other necromancy spell) but at the cost of another school of magic, like divination for example)
(yes,l know some of you will think this feat is too OP. that's not the point. l want name ideas, not ways for this feat to be balanced. if you have advice for this feat, please feel free to post your suggestions on this thread)
I think the exclusion is too close to the confusion-complication caused with the 2e system. I don't think the cost to copy a spell into your book needs to be any different from any other spell you could copy.
I don't think out of class access is overpowered. (Wait until you see my Shaman!) Obviously the devs don't think so either or there wouldn't be a way to do so in homebrew.
(It's not going to be easy though, you're basically going to have to set up school under options and list every single spell individually under the specific school. Note you'll probably get a copyright flag.)
I've done some work on a very similar feat, or at least as one of the aspects of the feat. It's really too much work for me to bother with right now, but if you want to sweat it out, go ahead. Don't forget that not all schools of magic have associated spells, (c.f. bladesinger, war mage,) and not all classes have all schools (e.g. dunamancy et al.)
