I'm going to start some introductory sessions on D&D 5e with a "learn while playing" mindset.
Rules (including building a character) will be introduced while adventuring.
Curious to know how many might be interested in such a thing, and to gauge familiarity with D&D Beyond, AboveVTT, Discord, etc.?
I have not yet decided on the best format to run the sessions, how frequently to run them, or at what times. Any and all input is welcome.
EDIT: I see there's lots of interest for this sort of thing. Great! I'm going to set some stuff back and get back to those interested soon.
EDIT 2: Sorry this has taken so long. It has taken a bit to set up discord to my liking, in particular so folks can jump in, grab a character, and learn as we play. Almost done! But I'll make a new post looking for actual players with a posted time (since it seems difficult to make a friends list or to reply to all on these forums).
EDIT 3: Ok, put together a one-shot for newer (and new) players for next Tuesday. Will do separate announcements for each session. Thank you very much for all your responses!
I used to play AD&D tabletop back in the late 70s / early 80s. Just got hooked up with a live (face-to-face) group about half an hour from my home. However, I'd like to do some more "get acquainted" playing, since this has grown to 5th Edition, over the intervening 40 years.
I'd truly appreciate learning to quickly determine how dice rolls and modifiers work together to render the results of actions / combat. I'm also looking for a more "roleplaying" style, versus simply "hack and slash". Combat has its place, but THE STORY is the key element in keeping players engaged.
I am SamWesthoek on DnDBeyond. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, in the CST. I'm retired now... for good... so I have any day, any hours available.
Interested but need a time so I can commit or not, Just getting back into D&D after many years, Wanting to play through above VTT hopefully to see how it plays and learn the ins and outs
I would be interested in joining, I’m very new to dnd and was going to go ahead and join any game that would accept. And if it’s a beginner game specifically it would be welcomed

Hi I would be interested in joining im in the BST timezone, free anytime, with a little experience in D&D 3.5e (face to face) and looking to learn how to do it online.
I am recently coming back to DnD after a couple decade hiatus. I've played a couple of 5e campaigns this year using DNDbeyond and Discord. I'm not too familiar with aboveVTT or Roll20 but willing to learn them as I go. I'm looking for something regular on a on a Tuesday or Thursday, 5:30PM (EDT, UTC -4) or later.
I have never played d&d for real. Not enough friends or a DM to play a real campaign. Me and a couple of friends would build characters and just have duels with them like arena battles with maps and one of us would referee it. Silly I know but that's what we had :). Its fun but I'd like to get into playing a real campaign and get comfortable with RP (social anxiety intensifies). This sounds like something I would love to be a part of. Scheduling would be important (time zone EDT). I can remain flexible to a point but I am married and have two kids with activities and stuff. I might be able to make most evening after 8:00om EDT work but probably Fri/Sat are best. If you want more details on me as a person to see if I'm a good fit for your group let me know.
Hi, I just joined and I would like to join a group and this seems like a nice fit since it would be nice to have someone help me along for this experience.
