Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Face2Face but willing to give Online a try (my countries internet sucks though) Experience: New(ish) Location/Timezone: Cape Town / Southern hemisphere Gmt +2 Availability: Ideally would at minimum like to play once a week. Have a very flexible schedule so pretty much whenever (except maybe if it starts after midnight my time because you know that pesky thing called sleep). Preferred role: Player (working on getting experience before I try my hand at DM'ing) Game style: Literally would be game for anything but if I had to choose then story/roleplay
Have loved Fantasy all my 25 years (well I don't remember when I was a baby but for as far back as my memory goes) but Surprisingly enough never even thought of playing D&D until I took up the hobby of writing. In doing research to improve my literary skills I found that many sources said playing D&D makes you a better story teller (improvisation and character development) after watching a few D&D games on the internet I was instantly hooked. Finally found a group for myself after much searching that was not already full and had LOTS of fun but slowly we started playing less and less and now its like a 3 month gap between games which just does not serve to scratch my D&D itch. Having a real hard time finding groups so hoping one of you on here can help me!
I am almost in the same boat as you (George - Garden Route) and will be making my own LFG post soon. Do not discount the online too easily.
At the moment I am still playing with my group from Pretoria every once in a while over the internet. Currently we use Skype to dial in, with the only issues that the group on that side (all sitting together) do not have a proper mic and cut out sometimes when they (and the other ambient noises) start getting too loud. I sent them a better mic to see if it helps. Point being that playing over the internet is possible with South African internet. My sister (the hosts) have LTE and live on a small holding outside of Pretoria. I have LTE living in George. Both Telkom, both unhappy with our speed tests, but still able to play. A good session can take around 1-1.5GB of data if video is also used. Right now I use audio, and they enable video only when the fight has a battle-map so that I can see.
Good luck finding a group. If I find another online one I will try to remember this thread.
