Elaebryn here in the Eastern Time Zone, available to post several hours per evening. I'm looking for play-by-post games.
If you're a GM, why would you want me in your game? I want to engage with your world without trying to break it or make the game about me. I will absolutely bite on your quest hook. I will ask questions and look for clues. That stranger with the shifty eyes sounds trustworthy enough for me to go chasing after the MacGuffin. I'll find a reason for my character to care about the plot. And in combat? Well, let's just say I am surprisingly mediocre. I don't even particularly try to optimize unless the GM lets on that we're going to be playing something gritty like Dark Sun. And even then, I'm not going to try to be an immortal kobold god at 3rd level as was possible in past editions. I take my time to write up characters with short backstories that can be expanded, and I'll gladly try to provide plot hooks therein given what I know of the world. I'll even ask questions and try to collaboratively make something that you want to run!
If you're a player, why would you want me in your game? I want you to have fun. I don't mean that in some kind of arrogant sense, like I'm the best person ever and by merely typing words at me you will achieve nirvana. I'm actually a terrible person who texts in the theatre, so I'm probably going to Shepard Book's "special hell". What I mean is that I like to pick up on what other people like and facilitate it. Someone's making a Pathfinder rogue and would really love a flanking buddy? Not only will I make a melee character, but I'll take a teamwork feat so you're even better at flanking! Someone's making a barbarian because he wants to break down doors and smash faces? Well then, I've got an Enlarge Person or a Haste spell with your name on it! I not only try not to steal people's thunder, but I actively try to help other people have the fun they're trying to have. That's fun for me. I'm a helper!
But what about me as a person? I cut my teeth on D&D 3.0 and Vampire: The Masquerade, and those are great! In the current decade, I've expanded to D&D4E, Pathfinder, Dark Heresy, and experimented with a few others. I'm a complete novice to D&D5E and Shadowrun, but I've heard great stories about them and I'm brimming with more enthusiasm than a corgi who just heard the treat bag open.
Hey there! I saw your post and I've got a 5e game that i'm running on staurdays 5:30 est till whenever. I am an experienced player and a novice DM. We have 1 new player and 1 experienced play. Aramys, Wood Elf Ranger - Eternal Warfare (5E)
Seville, Half-elf Rogue - Silver Valley (3.5E)
Would you consider playing 3.5?
Absolutely! Most of my in-person roleplaying took place with 3.5 or Pathfinder, so I'm really familiar with the system.
