Game: Fantasy D&D, combining rules from Pathfinder (combat), Spycraft (skills), and Homebrew (magic, classes) Group type: Face-to-face Experience: All levels welcome Location/Timezone: Woodland Hills, CA, USA / Pacific Time Zone Schedule: Wednesdays at 7:00 pm Roles sought: 2 Players Game style:
Dear Kind Sir and/or Madam,
Are you longing to join the glamorous life of a Dungeons & Dragon player in Los Angeles? Do you desire to reap the social rewards of someone who describes in great detail his or her character's appearance? Do you long to demonstrate to other grown men and women how you fire magic missiles from your dramatically outstretched hand?
Well let me tell you, brother and/or sister, your time to rise above the losers and low-lives who don't play D&D in Los Angeles has arrived!
What ho! I run a heavily modified D&D game in Woodland Hills, CA on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 11:00 pm, and we're looking for a non-smoking, socially adept player. This dedicated group of women and men (gay and straight) who have careers in acting, television production, animation, computer programming, and aeronautical engineering are aged 27 to 57. If you are fun to be around and have good personal hygiene, keep reading!
The rules are an amalgam of Pathfinder, Spycraft, and house rules. You do not need any books to play, as there is a single campaign rulebook that covers everything you need to know. No prior experience with D&D or any specific ruleset is necessary. We will gently teach all you need to know and guide you through the mechanics as needed.
I've been DMing this home brew campaign world for a very long time and run serial -- rather than episodic -- sessions. That means a story arc typically does not go through a beginning, middle, and end in a single session; rather, the arc may take a few weeks -- if not months or years -- to resolve. Wherever a session ends one week will be the place it picks up in the next. Because of this play style, a catch-as-catch-can attendance pattern would not be a good fit. If, after test-driving the game, you feel you'd like to join permanently, we would ask that you please make a commitment to coming on a weekly basis.
We play at my house in Woodland Hills in a large gaming room with a 6' round table (the kind you see at conventions) that seats seven people. The neighborhood is very safe and has ample parking on both sides of the street. The house is built down the grade of a hill, and you will be required to walk down 2 flights of stairs to the lowest level with a banister on only one side. If you have mobility issues, this unfortunately would not be the game for you.
I've written 5 modules for the RPGA, which were highly rated. My storylines usually involve a lot of political intrigue, high-flying adventure, and distinct NPCs. While we take our adventures and RP seriously, we laugh through most of the game, always having fun regardless of what doom has befallen the PCs.
Because we are in the West Valley and meet on a weeknight just after rush hour, you need to be mentally prepared for the drive if you are coming from the Basin/West Side. It can take an hour or more to go from Hancock Park to my house, so buyer beware. That said, for years I had players driving in from as far away as Big Bear and Las Vegas every week to attend, so don't be such a crybaby.
In summation, we are: Fun Sometimes vulgar Chatty Well-groomed Liberal but sometimes politically incorrect Hygienic Non-smokers
You: Are genuinely kind Are a non-smoker Have a reliable car Able to climb stairs without scraping your frickin' backpack against my walls Brush your teeth at least 2 times a day Bathe every day (and that includes washing under your arms, your genitals, and in the cleavage of your buttocks. With soap.) Apply deodorant or antiperspirant every day Put your dirty underwear in the laundry basket and wear a fresh pair every day Wash your hands after visiting the toilet each and every time Don't spit food when you talk Don't belch the alphabet to be cute and fun Are someone who didn’t need to be told to do the preceding 7 items
If this sounds like something you might be interested in either now or in the future, send a private message, and I'll send more info.
Gramercy, m'lord and/or m'lady, for your interest!
I am 57 and living in Palmdale now. But as an LA native traffic is in my DNA. My work requires occasional travel (once every few months) so my physical presence would be challenged at times.
I played D&D in the 70s and dabbled with Traveller in the 80s then fell out of playing. Eventually my kids found my dice stash and learned to play with their friends. One is now part of a streaming D&D podcast. That got me interested in playing again after a 30 year break. I have found a Discord group, but I dearly miss the face-to-face experience.
Your seven rules are axioms for civilization. I can also manage stairs without gluing myself to a wall for stability. Is there a rule regarding sliding down the banister? Forget that last question; my acrobatics modifier went negative after I passed 50.
