My DM gave my group permission to come up with some magic items that we would like to see for our characters. I havent submitted it to him yet and wanted to get some opinions from others first. I dont want to try and break the game, is it too much? Let me know what you think.
Quarterstaff of Clairty
Staff (quarterstaff), rare (requires attunement by a must be attuned too)
You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. In addition to this, Elvish runestones are set into this staff which allow an attuned monk to store a number of Ki equal to his or her proficiency modifier but cannot exceed this number. Each morning at dawn the monk can roll a D4 and add that number to the Ki stored.
I like it. When I was playing a monk I would have been thrilled to find it!
I’d tweak the wording slightly to make it more clear how it works, but the only change that I’d make to the staff is maybe make the max number of Ki points be based on the monk’s Wisdom modifier instead of their proficiency bonus.
That's a good suggestion about the wisdom modifier. Thanks for the input. If he approves the staff, maybe I'll ask to add an "awakened" status to perhaps boost unarmed strikes while I'm holding the staff down the road. Like a D6 lightning damage or something.

You could homebrew up something that power ups your unarmed strikes too. Since you will never find anything like those in the actual game.
