The other reason I made a post here and didn't try and revive the other thread is that I was thinking of how I could get the same sort of stylized Samurai feel without playing a homebrewed subclass, since that probably won't fly most of the time. And I settled on being a Kensei but homebrewing in one single ability, Flurry of Steel, from my subclass. The ability reads as follows:
"Whenever you use Flurry of Blows or your Martial Arts feature for a Bonus Action Attack on your turn, you use your weapon instead of an unarmed strike. As long as you are proficient with the weapon and it is considered a Monk weapon. These extra attacks will still use the martial arts die for damage just as your unarmed strikes do. The damage type will also match the weapon you are currently wielding and its range. You also don't benefit from any on-hit magic effects or trigger a weapons special ability with these attacks"
I think just this single ability would allow me the flavor I want out of Kensei while also giving it more of that "master of weapons" feel. I wanted to ask if there is anything that seems underpowered/overpowered about making this one change to Kensei. Is there something I need to add/remove from it to make it work with Kensei better?
Howdy folks,
About a year or so back I made a homebrew subclass for monk designed to capture that more stylized samurai type feel that I thought Kensei and the official Samurai lacked. I posted a thread in the homebrew forum but it quickly was buried. You can find the older version in my signature and the newest version here as a homebrewery file. I would love some more feedback as I have only gotten a tiny bit of feedback on it so far.
