Hi, I'm running past my DM the following action if my monk character is using nunchuku as their weapon in a combat, this is instead of using a Ki point to do the Dodge action.
- Spend 1 Ki point to attempt to trap the weapon of an opponent the character can see attack them (can only be used once per turn - if more than one opponent attacks, then this will be used on the first opponent only)
- The opponent needs to do a strength save vs (maybe the monk's dex modifier (seeing that's what the monk uses for it's weapon proficiency?)
Either of:
- If the opponent doesn't save, their weapon is caught in the nunchuku, if they do save, then monk gets to do a dex save to avoid, or it takes damage from the weapon; or
- The opponent attacks with disadvantage and if the throw is less than ?? then the weapon is caught, otherwise the nunchucku fends off the weapon
Then:
- If successful, on the monk's next turn, the monk must make 1 unarmed strike first; then can only make 1 strike with the weapon followed by a bonus unarmed strike/flurry of blows (to acknowledge the fact that their weapon while trapping the opponents is essentially out of action, and the monk will need to take an action to safely disengage the weapons)
Still not sure if first unarmed attack should be at advantage, as it may make it OP?
To balance it out, if there was more than one attacker, I'd suggest that subsequent attackers do so at advantage seeing as the character is engaged with another opponent.
Anyway, just spitballing something, to try and bring something else into our campaign that we can try (maybe there's something else available that is easier/makes more sense?)

Spend 1 Ki point when attacking and attempt to trap the weapon. You must score a hit, but do no damage. Instead roll damage as normal, but double that value, ignoring any magic. So if normal damage of 1d6+2, rolls a 3 = 5x2=10. That is the DC for a bare Dex check made by your victim. If they make their Dex ability check, they pull their weapon free (not an action) If they fail their save, they drop the weapon and it slips out of your grasp to land at your victim's feet.
Can be done multiple times, but each time costs 1 ki point.
