All sequel talk aside (though I do love the discussion) has anyone heard talk of a Lando movie or show in the works? I know there was some talk about it in general, but I haven't heard any new developments.
No Lando movie or show in the immediate future. Ahsoka is happening too. And there is supposed to be a show set in High Republic too. Movie-wise, Rogue Squadron, whatever Taika Waititi is working on are the only solid ones. Johnson's trilogy is still rumored in the possibility realms, the Game of Thrones guys project is gone, but I think there's another trilogy idea floating around.
They might have to recast because Donald Glover is busy. I think he still has Atlanta and Childish Gambino and his actor/producer(writer director?) for Mr. and Mrs. Smith is part of a big deal with Amazon so they may have him occupied or unable to work with Disney for a while. Still, he seems to thrive on being super busy so maybe he has "If Disney wants me to do Lando, I'm putting my cape on" clause in his Amazon contract.
As far as Rey's competency. I think you need to see both Rey and Ben/Kylo as that "dyad" thing, they clearly didn't know that's where they were going in TFA, but it's also clear they were making a connection, even with Snoke saying "Darkness rises, and Light rises to meet it" ... so they way I see Rey "getting away" with it is you're seeing the Force working really hard to push a balance against Kylo by literally knocking him down a peg. So it's not so much Rey and who Rey was at that point in the movies but the Force within her she surrendered too, sort of like a Saint or what have you doing miraculous things as moved by the Holy Spirit. Was it clumsy? Yeah, sure but it's Star Wars, so what would you expect?

I mean, cheesy? yes I expect that. But plot and story were Lucas's strong points, whereas Abrams just seems to think "this sounds cool. throw it in there. Didn't work? Oh well, here, try this and this and this" etc etc.
Yeah I figured Glover was busy, especially dealing with Atlanta and his music career. But I had heard something about a Lando show a while ago, so I wasn't sure (in my opinion, he was the best part of the Solo movie). Then again, the tip I heard was pre-Covid, so I'm not sure.
I haven't heard. I try to pay attention to these things, but there's no news yet. I'm excited for Boba Fett and Mando and Andor and Obi-Wan, though. Those are the four coming out soon.

Andor as in Cassian Andor?
Yep. And Disney actually put out a "trailer" which was more of a behind the scenes reel, showing some sets and stunt work. I think you see the U-Wing so maybe K2 will be part of the show (though I don't remember hearing about Tudyk sticking around, though the guy likes playing robots). Anyway, it was in production before Book of Boba Fett was even announced or Obi Wan started shooting, so hopefully we'll be seeing more of it soon. For Ahsoka, there's rumors to be casting for Thrawn, Ezra and Sabine (last article suggested the guy who voiced Thrawn might get it, the Alladin actor has a huge fan campaign pushing for him, and I remember hearing someone was in talks for Sabine but I don't really follow the young actor world so not sure / don't remember who it was).
What do you all think of this fan theory that posits R2 basically murdered Obi Wan on the Death Star? When Obi Wan provided Luke his "point of view" on the death of Luke's father, R2 who was there and didn't have his memory wiped, would not take that point of view nonsense, so while on the Death Star rigged the doors to force the Obi Wan Vader confrontation, and maybe even tipped off his former owner where Obi Wan was. After Luke yelled "noooo!" R2 recognized he may have made an error so from thence force stayed on the side of good. I mean, it's a theory....

I'm impressed. This actually sounds worse than the "jar-jar is a Sith" theory (no offense). At the end of the day, we all love R2, and know he has some character of his own, but I highly doubt that he would go soooo out of his way to do something so crazy. Droids are programmed and have orders, so this seems pretty out there. Plus, there is no substantial evidence that he did this, nor has it been backed up by anyone (far as I know). In addition, for this theory to work, we would have to accept that droids have some sort of mind of their own, outside their programming. thus, if R2 had a mind of his own, he would recognize Obi-wan as a friend, from the clone wars, and not seek ill for him. This is a theory that has no evidence, doesn't really make sense, and is trying to fill a gap where there isn't one. If it ain't broke, don't fix it
All joking aside, I fully support the "Jar-jar is a sith theory"

Well, R2 is basically the exception to the "droids are programmed and have orders" nature/rule of Droids. I think the canonical explanation of that is the fact that Anakin never even gave him the routine memory wipes that Republic astromech's underwent (made him a very valuable intelligence asset when the CIS almost got him). I think it's actually been explicitly stated during Clone Wars or some supporting books around there that because of that deeper memory, R2 is actually able to deliberate/think on a level most other droids (like 3P0) just can't. Don't get me wrong, I think the fan theory is absurd too, but I like the idea of calling R2 a murderer. I think I read it on like ScreenRant or something, my phone's queue had set up. I mean as far as "good guy" droids, R2 was the most vicious, sparking monkey lizards, and setting other droids on fire with lubricant. I find it much more grounded than Jar-Jar being a Sith.
My other favorite Droid fan theory is that Rey wasn't the first time Falcon flying wonderkin in TFA, and Han was never really that great either, even in the Asteroid Field. Rather, L3-37's droid brain embedded in the Falcon was more than a little responsible for "a few maneuvers."

I think that BB-8 also breaks that rule, showing more than a little bit of independence. Did you know L3-37 isn't the only droid in there? There's also a transport droid's brain and one of a corporate espionage slicer droid. Also, am I doing okay as the leader of this cult? It's my first time, and I don't want to screw up.
P.S.: This is canon. R2 asked R5 to blow himself up in IV for the Rebellion.
I definitely think there's a few droids that break the "programming" rule, so to speak and I kind of get the theory as a joke.
PS: your as good a cult leader as most. No arguments (for real for real) on this thread, and lots of good discussion. Also a high nerd level, which I appreciate.
Gotta convene the cult, Visions is out. I'll check back in probably in a week or so after I watch it to duck spoilers but let's get this conversation hashed out.

Visions episode 1 was good. I'm honestly kind of glad its not cannon, not for a bad reason, but is allows the studios to do their creative best, and still be star wars at the same time. Also, the animation is really cool
I'm on the card trader app, same name if anyone wants to make fun of my "trash collection" as the whales call it. I haven't seen an episode yet, but the artwork they've shown so far on the card app is awesome.

I really liked it, it left me wanting to know a lot more about the Ronin characters, and I liked how that trope was played with independently of the "Seven Samaurai" trope the short plays with with "The Guards" ... and loved how their lead was a Trandoshan.
A ronin makes a lot of sense in the Sith tradition of the Rule of Two Master/Apprentice dynamic. Maul was very much a ronin if you think about it. Of course that's presuming the character is actually a Sith, a presumption made by their blade. The fact that he gives the chief a red khyber and tells her to keep it it wards off evil ... suggests he's on a very different if not altogether unique path as far as general understanding of Force users go. Y'all think that temple he tricked the Sith in was a temple to the Son (so possibly not Sith at all).
Looking forward to checking out the rest.

Definitely liked the first one the best (so far). The samurai ronin feel it had was cool like you said. Obviously none of it's canon, but I think that make the potential of the show better. The reveal at the end with the red kyber crystals was really cool. They kind of painted him as a true neutral sort of sith hunter, a sith to hunt sith, I guess. As far as my lore knowledge, can't remember if a red blade means your a sith or if it means you just know the dark side. Either way it was a cool idea
Not putting this under spoiler because it's general SW knowledge, but replying to Gh0sty. In current canon, red blades are not the product of "natural" Khyber crystals. Rather a Sith (and possibly a non-Sith Dark Side user) "bleed" the Khyber by sort of abusing the crystal with their will via the Dark Side, sort of the opposite of the Jedi rituals of allowing the crystal to call to you seen in Clone Wars and Fallen Order. The Ahsoka novel, while a lot of its retconned away via CW Season 7, had this cool explanation for her white blades, she used the force to tear the red crystals from an Inquisitor and (perhaps uniquely) was able to rehabilitate the crystals to a Jedi, or Jedi adjacent harmony.
Red blade "bleeding" canon comes from Marvel's Darth Vader comics, there may have been something in the past couple of years that challenges that, but it's come up in a few places as stable lore, including the Card Trader App (really, none of you are on there?).

Thoughts on The Duel
