"Board a boat and you can travel to anywhere in the multiverse, to what lies beyond the horizon's edge."
This inn is similar to other role-playing threads on the server in that it's a place for people to come together and explore their characters. The focus here is on exploring the characters you love in a low stakes, friendly environment.
RULES:
These rules are for you to follow while in this thread. They deliberately aren't exhaustive, the spirit of them is far more important than the wording. If in doubt about whether something is allowed, don't do it. Send me a message and I'll clarify as quickly as I can. Please respect my rulings and wishes, I hate enforcing things and with luck I won't have to! There are currently no moderators, just me, if this changes I will update you all.
- No fighting. This applies IC and OOC. It means no harming characters (in any way) , but also no harassing characters, arguing or passive aggressiveness. If you have a problem you can't ignore, create a PM and sort it out sensibly with the other person or myself. Include me in the chat so I can make sure it stays reasonably friendly.
- Keep content appropriate. D&D is a 12+ game, keep content appropriate to that. Therefore, no swearing, excessive gore, sexually suggestive or otherwise potentially upsetting content.
- You are allowed to have as many characters as you’d like, but limit yourself to 2 active at any time.
- Say if you have a problem. If your character or you are placed in a situation you are not enjoying l say so. If someone tells you they are not enjoying something, stop doing it, apologise and retcon that section of rp.
- Be friendly! We're all here to rp and enjoy ourselves, so interact with one another and don't leave anyone out.
If you have any specific suggestions/questions concerning rules, or really anything at all you'd like to see in the inn, send me a message! I'm not promising it will happen, but I'll definitely consider it.
GUIDANCE AND INFORMATION:
This contains any other information you may need, such as on character creation and encounters. I will add to this section as necessary.
- Anything goes with character creation, sheets aren't necessary and homebrew is absolutely fine (even play characters from other games if you'd like!). If you want to play a character more powerful than a DnD 5e level 20 or CR 16 stat block, message to check with me first.
- Encounters aren't going to be a part of this thread, if you like that sort of thing I suggest you check out one of the various excellent taverns on this forum. The focus here is on exploring the characters you're passionate about, not adventuring.
- Every character has a room in the inn should they want it and orders are served quickly from the staff when Yohan and Katarina are not around to bring them.
- Use *asterisks like this* or square brackets to indicate OOC comments and italics for telepathy.
The small settlement of Here is a quaint seaside town. Friendly fishermen, the townsfolk are not unused to a regular stream of interesting visitors due to its location in the currents of the plane of elemental water: it's well known that the ocean waves will carry you anywhere, even other worlds! A few boats arrive carrying travellers from various worlds every now and then. Most come stay at the Inn of Here, run by a young married couple - half-elf Yohan and the goliath Katarina. The Inn is fitted with various amenities from a bar, living area, library and games room: anything that you feel should be included. What's more, the door is always open, ready for new patrons to join the fray. The evening boats have just arrived and the characters we the warm glow of lights from the nearby Inn of Here.
Walking nonchalantly through the streets, seemingly oblivious to the freezing cold evening weather, a short, dark-skinned gnome with large glasses and a violin strung over her back looks around, seemingly quite charmed by the town. As she scans the street, she sees the tavern, and her slow trot becomes a run as she sprints excitedly up to the tavern door, gently pushing it open. Once inside, she will walk up to the bar (slowly this time).
"Hi there, sir, m'lady! Might I trouble you for a drink of something spicy? You know, like a spiced hot xocoatl drink, or a chai?"
Katarina, a tall, down-to-earth goliath smiles at her, "Hello! First customer of the evening, glad to see you. One chai coming up!" She turns to the counter and begins to make it. "I'm Katarina, by the way. Who might you be?"
"I'm Barone... No, I'm Maria. Maria Kettleblack, just a trusty musician. Singer. Some might say dancer, too. I guess that makes me... A bard! At your service!"
"A musician? That's brilliant, we haven't had a musician come to stay for ages! I don't suppose you could give a performance - nut you don't have to!" Katarina says hurriedly, not wanting to scare off a customer. She hands Maria her chai.

"I would simply adore to, m'lady!" Maria smiles, as if that had been her plan all along. "I'll finish my drink then pluck up a ballad so fierce it will rock the whole tavern! In a good way. Definitely a good way."
Katarina senses a change in the mood and gets her something stronger. "Well, I don't want to pry. But wherever you left, you're gone from there. You can have a new life."
Katarina suddenly realises what Maria thinks she was offering and jumps, startled. "What?! Oh, I meant more generally," she chuckles to herself, "though if you stayed here, the rent is a pretty good deal. And music always goes down well with the customers."

"You know what? Play a little something and I'll waive the cost. Oh, and you might not want to flash that kinda money anywhere shady: just one of those coins is worth a few nights stay."
She places her drink up on the bench, then walks over near the fireplace, whips out her violin, and you notice - she's not using a bow. She's strumming it like a guitar!
