I to give you all knowledge of one of Irelands soul collectors
the ankou is a tall emaciated and rotted corpse wrapped in a billowing black cowl and wearing a wide rimmed hat he wields a scythe and wanders cemeteries at night
some say he was once a prince and is now cursed to wander eternally others say that there is no one ankou but that he is the last soul of the year to die in his local parish and as such he is bound there guiding lost souls to the afterlife until the year ends and another takes his place
if i say something inflammatory the intention is not to trigger an emotional response and the fact that it does so is purely accidental and I sincerely apologise if it does

he could probably make a cool dnd monster
ankou is a general celtic spirit
Interesting. I have never heard of that. It would be a cool monster to interact with.
It is interesting comparing the appearances of frightening monsters. Emaciated, frighteningly tall creatures with wide rimmed hats are very popular. I mean, why wide brimmed hats? El Silben was once the son of a rancher, so that makes sense, but why don’t monsters wear bowlers or top hats or fez caps. I don’t know why I am saying this, just my random thoughts that probably have reasons I just don’t know them yet.

learned why ankou has a wide hat in 16th century ireland labourers such as gravediggers wore wide hats to protect against the sun

Interesting. The El Silben wears a wide hat because he was the son of a rancher and that is the type of hats they wore.
I keep noticing that many monsters seem to share similar appearances. Like deer skulls. It has become very popular for scary monsters to have deer skulls for heads. It has kind of gotten to the point where it isn't unique or interesting anymore. At least to me. I have seen so many monsters depicted in such a way that it makes me want to see something unique. It does look cool, but if everybody does it it is less interesting.
Other monster traits that are super common are tall, emaciated creatures. And then dragons are also like that. I just think this is interesting to think about.

I personally enjoy the skull of a stag or a ram on a monster but can see why others might not

Lots of mythology is.
To be honest, yeah kinda
True. A lot of the Greek myths had sex in them (I’m not sure about other mythologies).
I mean, gods have to come from somewhere haha
True lol! Kind of amazing Aphrodite didn’t have more kids xD.
I mean there's at least 19
There are?? Wow! I didn’t know that. Thanks Klein.
With Ares, Aphrodite has the following children: -Anteros, God of unrequited love -Beroe, Patron goddess of ancient Lebanon -Deimos, God of Fear -Harmonia, Goddess of Harmony -Phobos, God of Panic
She mothered a god with Hermes: -Hermaphroditos, the God of intrasex people.
She also mothered two gods with Dionysus: -Iacchus, the patron god of the Eleusian Mysteries. -Priapus, God of fertile gardens.
She also was the mother of the Erethos, the winged gods which include: -Eros, god of true love -Himeros, god of Desire -Pothos, God of sexual longing -Peitho, god of seduction (this one is disputed though)
She also had two daughters with Poseidon: -Rhode, the wife of Helios. -Rhodos, the island personified.
She was also concidered the mother of several heroes: -Aeneas, the survivor of Troy and traditional ancestor of the Roman Empire. -Astynoos, a prince of Syria. -Eryx, the king of Sicily. -Herophile, a sibyl prophetess -Lyros, a prince of Dardania.

Greek mythology: Here's your options, if you are like really really good, you get eternal bliss, otherwise eternal boredom/torture
Norse mythology: Here's your options, if you die fighting, you either fight forever, and again fight at ragnarok, or you go to a more mellow version, but still fight at ragnarok. If you don't die fighting, eternal boredom/torture kind of hard to tell. If you make the incredibly stupid mistake of dying at sea, your soul gets stuck in a net forever.
Egyption mythology: Here's your options, if your good, eternal bliss, if your not, you no longer exist.
Honestly the egyption seems the best, although either way you need to be buried in a specific way, and get to the halls of judgement in the first place, but you know, if your thinking about the long term it seems cool.
