*Oh yeah, we were at the noodle bar*

'So, what do you think of this town?'

"I just got here a little while ago. The sewers seem neat. Do they get backed up often?"

'Nah. It sucks when that does happen though. Have to make sure that everything's secured down. But that's a lesson you learn pretty young. So yes, they are neat. You been down there much lately?'

"Not on purpose." He rubs the bruise on his head.

'Fair point. How did you just, like fall in? I mean, it doesn't happen too often...?'

Daniel thanks Flint for showing him where the noodle bar is and orders a plate of spicy hot noodles. “So, I’m thinking of moving to this town if business works out. What do you think of it?”

'I think that's a good idea. I like this town. I've lived in a few places over the years, but this one is one of the better ones. Plus, the place reeks of opportunity'

 “Thanks! It seems like a really nice town. So what made you decide to live in the sewers?”

'I was raised by rats as a kid. Never knew my parents, the rats took me in. I was basically one of them, if it wasn't for the voice of the Great Third in my head teaching me the things the rats couldn't. This is the only life I've ever known, so why change it? It'd be like a monkey moving to a place with no trees. I'm pretty much adapted to underground life.'

'I hope that wasn't me. I never leave manholes open. Don't want people poking around. Could have been Red, I think he's been down there recently'

 “That’s really interesting. I’ve spent enough time in dungeons not to be afraid of being underground. What’s the Great Third?”

'He's the voice in my head, but he's not me. He's somewhere beyond, and he looks after me. He's at war with the Sixth, the representative of pure evil, and the First, the representative of self-destruction. I think he's why the rats like me'

 “Wow!” Daniel looks really impressed. “So like a god, but in your head. Good thing you didn’t listen to the First.” He smiles fondly at Hi. “I really like Hi. He’s a cool rat.”

'Oh, the First doesn't come naturally to me. He's usually locked in endless combat with the Sixth anyway. The Third, on the other hand, chose me, I think. I don't know. I try to seek answers in meditation, with some success. And yes, Hi is cool. But don't say it too loud, or his head'll get so big it won't fit through the drains'

Hi nods. 

'You been on any interesting travels? I guess a guy like you would have some stories to tell'

“That’s great!” Daniel nods. “Well, I’m glad the Third chose you and I’m glad you’re able to get some answers sometimes.” He thinks for a minute. “Interesting travels… there was one time I went to Stormwreck Isle with my adventuring party and stopped a war between metallic and chromatic dragons. That’s one of my favorite adventures cause we were able to resolve the situation without killing anyone, especially a dragon, which is rare when you’re an adventurer.”

'Wow! The ones that result in no kills are always the best in my opinion. Can't believe you've actually seen dragons!'

 “Dragons are amazing!” Daniel says sincerely. He gets a far away look in his eyes. “And I’m sure someday I’ll meet at least one more dragon, or maybe I’ll meet one of the ones I’ve already met again… anyway. What about you Flint? Ever dreamed of a life of adventure on the open road?”

'Sometimes. I have had to travel between cities sometimes, and I do like skulking through dark places where nobody else wants to go. And actually, I'd want to train to be a healer in the group. And I like gold, and am not squeamish about dead people. But I'm not strong or brave. Just an opportunistic sewer scavenger, not some wannabe hero'
