A man with wild black hair with a single coral-colored stripe and bronze-colored skin clad in black robes appears in a snap of light on the threshold of the House of Cato. He carries a lengthy bladed chain in one hand and a shard of porcelain in the other. His hands are badly scarred, and he wears a crazed expression. Arcane energy crackles around him. His name is Tenax en Eki.

 Serpens Mortis walks up to Tenax. "Who are you?"

"Tenax. I am an emissary of Death and Life. I received an invitation."

 "I see. I believe you people want me to introduce myself as well. I am Serpens Mortis, Collecter of Souls, devoid of a soul or emotion myself." 

"I like that." He grins. "Did you give yourself that name?"

 "My parents bestowed it upon me." He states in a simple manner.

“Creative. So do you know what we’ll be doing here?”

 "I assume this is some sort of place for luxury. I have merely came here as a place to regain strength and energy. Additionally, I may gain some allies that could be of use to me."

“Ah, we are of a similar mind. I came seeking allies for myself, my master, and my compatriots.” Tenax looks about. “Though this place is well-designed… I wonder what it could weather.”

 "The architecture is of no importantance to me."

“Everything is of importance to me. Just who I am.”

 "Then it seems we are not the same. All that matters to me is survival, and the growing of my strength."

“Indeed. I work to serve others.”

 "Then it seems you are not on the top of the world's hierarchy. I am not myself, but I am actively rising, as nature intends for the strong to do. To condemn oneself to a servant is to always be stuck and never be able to move further up."

Tenax looks at Serpens with a mix of pity and distaste. “Then it seems you do not understand your limits. A hunger for power leads one to reach too far, and eventually fall and impale thyself upon the wreckage of all that you have destroyed to reach any higher.”

 "Not in my case." He pulls out the sheathed knife. It has red, glowing markings on it and radiates an aura of power. "This knife collects the souls of those I kill, and enhances my power over time. I have collected hundreds." He sheathes the knife again. "The more I kill, the easier it becomes. It is not the other way around."
