Out on the road to town, a group of refugees has been stopped by a group of armed soldiers, their faces covered by hazmat masks with an odd symbol on the glass
Mr. Black walks toward the gathering. His black coat swishes in the cold wind as his immense, menacing aura grows closer. However, neither the soldiers nor the refugees feel his gaze upon them.
"You're in my way." He's holding a case of bottles labeled "Heretical Apostasy." His clothes are streaked with gore.
"Walk around." One of them says in a gruff voice, marking a refugees before sending them off

"You are in my way. If I walk off the path, I could potentially trip. These bottles are worth far more than your entire net worth, so please, move out of the way." His voice is deep, his words quick and calculated. He still does not look directly at the soldiers.

Alex is out collecting plants
Beyond keeping am eye on them, they dint pay Alex any mind
*pm*
She observes what they do with the refugees
They coral them into a circular group, checking each ones face before doing something to their arm and sending them off
She walks over "What was that?"
"Sorting of sorts. Don't move any closer." One says, raising a hand to halt her

The man growls lowly for a moment before a different soldier sets a hand on their shoulder, "It doesn't matter, let him through"

"Thank you." He starts to walk by, then sniffs the air. "These refugees... they don't seem to trust you very much. What authority do you have over them? I'm just curious."

"Ever since the reactor shut down, there's been low moral. There's a dangerous criminal hiding amongst the refugees, we're here to make sure they don't hurt anyone" the one that calmed the more aggressive soldier says

"That would explain the scent I'm getting. You're all hunting. But something doesn't quite add up here. You seem to be hunting prey, not some sort of competitor or threat. I don't sense any fear or anxiety on you. You know you're the top dogs around here. By the way, why mark the refugees? Surely that's not part of a regular criminal investigation."

"Ah, I forgot that you treat hunting criminals differently than hunting monsters. Why would you need to track the refugees? That seems like an uneccesary invasion of privacy. If the criminal were hiding among the cityfolk, instead of the refugees, would you round up cityfolk and mark all of them? If the criminal was, say, hiding amongst you, would you allow yourselves to be marked?"

"Yes. You say that like what we're doing harms them." They say as another refugees sent off, "If this criminal stays loose, it could lead to drastic consequences, and I'm sure the cityfolk care about that more than a small mark."

"Fine. Alright, I'll assume the marks are in their best interest. However... if this criminal is so dangerous, so inconceivably harmful that these measures are necessary... how come you're so confident? You don't seem afraid at all, not even deep down. What if this person found your loved ones? You don't seem worried about that. Surely, if this person is dangerous, you would be worried, right? For the safety of the people, if not yourselves? I apologize if I'm being a bit intense, but I am very curious. I am a scientist of sorts, so I study whatever I don't understand, and given how casual about this whole thing despite your heavy armaments, you clearly have enough time to answer my questions."

"What about the other civilians? I don't see how those marks would protect them. And if this individual is so terrifying that you are resorting to these sorts of advanced weaponry, how safe and sound could your loved ones really be? You don't seem to be city guards, and given that you said that your loved ones are safe and sound, I'm guessing that means you're from somewhere outside the city. Given that information, and that you appear to not be refugees yet know about this unnamed individual from the city that just melted down, I'd say you're mercenaries. The city council sure as hell didn't hire you, since they would have put that on the news for sure and wouldn't have equipped you so well, so I'd say you were privately contracted. Your weapons are high-tech, implying that you are working for a group that can acquire such expensive and difficult-to-get weapons, such as a powerful corporation. You're from the company that melted down that city, yes? That makes this interesting. So, playing along, sir, what are the crimes of this individual who is so dangerous, yet not dangerous enough to threaten you?"

Mr. Black watches from the treeline, sniffing the air for supernatural currents.
