The sounds of an old radio playing equally old music can be heard in the forest. (boss encounter, if anyone's interested in fighting a very deadly monster.)
Jack tilts his head and follows it outside, confused.
"I fully agree" she said and began to suddenly make a series of chirps and squeaks in raccoon to Shelton, declaring herself a friend.
'Aww, that's awesome! Found him lurking around the bins of the tavern. He's got pretty good manners for a raccoon though!'
Shelton accepts her chirps and squeaks, and then says that if she is a friend of Flint's, then she is a friend of his
"Indeed. A little gentleman he is." She said and opened her bag and hand both Flint and Shelton half of a sandwich.
'Thanks, Chise! Where ya get that from? Thought ya were surviving off magic berries'
"As bad as it sounds... I stole a loaf of bread from this baker man i saw hurting his dog." she said and sighed "No one should hurt their best friends"
"Hm?" He looks at you, "Oh it's a simple charm to protect a place from certain spirits. I saw some weird stuff out in the woods last night and I thought I might as well set up some protective wards." He pulls out a piece of paper, writes something down on it, and slips it in the breeches pocket.
'Sounds good. The more protection, the better. Why pants though?'
"The charm causes any mischievous spirits or fey to enter the pants instead of the house. If they want to cause trouble, they can do it in there. I don't understand why they have to be yer pa's pants though." He shrugs.

As he follows the music, he sees headless bodies of heavily armed adventurers along the way, many of which are wearing strange gear and symbols not from this plane of existence.

He sees headless adventurers, many of them far more heavily armed than he is. Most of them seem to have been wearing armor and wielding weapons from another world.
The bodies lay in piles. what monstrous creature could have done this?

They come from an obscure, purgatory-like plane known as the Nightmare, which was collapsing recently due to the death of the Titans who ruled it. It is kept going by the psyches of some of the most horrible people in the world, but the loss of the Titans makes it impossible for a creature to ascend once it repents, so most of the time creatures are stuck there, unable to die of anything except old age without coming back. The creature that caused this was likely some sort of tormentor from that plane, hunting down escapees, although there are some bodies that don't seem to be from the Nightmare, yet they are still heavily armored and armed.

He hears a scream cut short nearby. A headless body is thrown against a nearby tree, hitting it with a wet splat.
