Last time I checked in on this thread it was on page 59, in 2024. That's crazy.
Indeed! Jeff has endured much war, turmoil and devestation and still lives on! We even are very close to figuring out his favorite color of clay! Praise Jeff!
I also think that one the things that makes threads lose interest is the lack of something clear to do. I believe that the only reason some characters fight is that it is one of the few ways at clear progression in some threads.
Honestly, this touches on another issue. Some people rp by creating story and character interactions and others rp by overcoming challenges and engaging with some sort of mechanical component the thread offers. This can sometimes lead to a disconnect between posters. I can imagine that this can lead to some disconnect where those who are more storyteller RPers avoid mostly mechanic/combat heavy threads (like the Arena threads) and more challenge/combat RPers avoid mostly storyteller threads (like the standard tavern threads).
Yeah, I'd would be great to make a thread that truly mixes the two, but as I said. It would be difficult.
I think Nothic's thread The Bloody Barnacle (pirate thread basically) was a good mix of the two. People could run any encounters they wanted for the ship to come across (even if the people running it weren't mods, they just needed mod approval in advance), but said encounters were entirely optional to engage in. So you could appease your urge to test out a monster by using them in an encounter, appease your urge to partake in combat with a character by participating in those encounters, or fufill your urge to rp by not having to do the encounters (or maybe rp'ing in those encounters depending on the hostility of the situation). So maybe that sort of system could be applied to other threads as well, I remember people were trying to set it up in theirs after the Barnacle did it.

I'll check it out, thanks for the info! Praise Jeff!

Well I was just proposing we use the system again but the thread was pretty cool so you can check it out if you want. I've been considering making a seafaring thread of my own so yeah.
Nothic, will you still pay advertisement fees if the thread hasn't been posted on since *checks* October last year?
