"...Yes. My father, my uncle, my brothers, my cousins, my friends, myself... all buried together. Sometimes I wonder if we bury our dead so we don't have to hear their voices."
“Well, that might explain why I can hear them, then,”
He stops as if just thinking of something, "Why weren't your dead buried?"
“Nobody ever found them, i think.”
"Oh. If you don't mind me asking... how'd they die?"
“I don’t know how anyone but my father died. They say He died in a house fire a few months before I was born.”
A kid is wandering the halls. They're around 16 or 17 with chin length black hair that's purple at the tips and yellow catlike eyes. They're wearing a black sweater with a skull on it, black sweatpants, and boots. metal claws cover the fingers of their left hand. The pocket of their sweater has a slight bulge as if something is inside.
The red light takes a step forward. The end of a bony snout can be seen as long, black claws wrap around the corner and scratch right through the wallpaper. Blacklight could probably get around the corner in a single step, given its size.
"I asked why you wanted to be a toymaker." It speaks with incredible glee. "One step back. Ask me a question now!" It seems almost giddy.
Escape is a step away. Teetering on the precipice.
“I already told you! That’s not fair!”
"You agreed to my terms when you joined the game, pureblood! Ask your question or forfeit!" It laughs.
“Fine. I’ve already asked you who and what you are, so when are you?” *that is not a typo*
"I am in the present. My past is rarely relevant, and my future is something I cannot predict. Bah, this game isn't fun anymore. What color is the sky, and what is your most prized possession?"
“Blue, i think, and the first puppet I ever made. Don’t know where it is now, though. Lost it somewhere.”

He eases up a little, "I'm sorry." He glances at the walls and looks a little confused, "I'm sorry if this is an odd question... but how deep is this cave?"

"It's probably in the basement. They have everything there. It is currently night, meaning the sky is clear, and you do not currently possess that puppet. Nevertheless, you answered every question I asked to the best of your knowledge and ability. You may leave. But first, one last question: why did you agree to the game? You clearly aren't afraid of me."

"...The-the one we're all trapped in." It is hard to make out his expressions underneath all the coal dust but you can easily tell he is worried.

You come across a soot stained miner sitting in a dark corner. He is turning something shiny over in his hands. He has not noticed you.

"Mostly. I wanted to get to know you better. You're less curious than I thought you would be. You could've asked any question you wanted, and you ran out after two. I'm not disappointed in you, just myself. Another question: did you know that your average mortal has about an entire nugget of gold in them? It's really impressive."
